The destruction caused by the fires sweeping through Los Angeles has been revealed through published before-and-after photos. The fires, which started on Sunset Boulevard in the luxurious Pacific Palisades area, affected a wide area from Malibu to Santa Monica. As of Thursday morning, the largest fire had destroyed 12,000 acres in the celebrity-populated Pacific Palisades neighborhood. A fire that started in a four-story building in Studio City spread to surrounding buildings. As a result of the disaster, five people lost their lives, 2,000 structures became unusable, and more than 130,000 people were forced to evacuate their homes. Famous personalities like Mandy Moore, Paris Hilton, James Woods, and Billy Crystal announced on social media that their homes had burned down, while the revelation that fire hydrants were not filled with reservoir water sparked controversy. LA real estate developer Rick Caruso attributed the situation to "poor management" and "systemic issues" in the city, while a verbal duel occurred between presidential candidate Donald Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom. In the fight against the fires, 1,500 firefighters were on duty, and 600 soldiers from the California National Guard were also deployed to the area. Teams are continuing their intervention efforts with 10 helicopters and two C-130 planes. LA County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone announced that K-9 units would be used to identify potential casualties after the fires are brought under control. As a result of the fire, banks, restaurants, gas stations, and numerous homes were reduced to ashes, while bulldozers had to clear abandoned luxury vehicles to make way for emergency services and firefighting teams. The city's management is facing heavy criticism, particularly due to the neglect of fire hydrants and infrastructure issues.
