Farmers harvesting lentils in the Gercüş district of Batman recorded a giant-sized grasshopper they encountered in the field with their mobile phones. The grasshopper, identified as carnivorous, was offered meat and released back into its natural habitat.

Farmers harvesting lentils in the Gercüş district of Batman were astonished by a giant grasshopper they encountered in the field.

MEAT WAS OFFERED

Salih Kavak, who went to the field to help his friends in the district, recorded the giant grasshopper he noticed during harvest with his mobile phone camera. While walking in the field, Kavak and his friends saw a grasshopper of unusual size and examined it closely without harming the creature. Salih Kavak, who picked up the grasshopper and examined it, later released it back into its natural habitat. Realizing the grasshopper was carnivorous, the locals offered it a small piece of meat they had. The giant grasshopper eating the meat was captured moment by moment on camera.

IT FEEDS ON AGRICULTURAL PESTS

Salih Kavak, sharing his unusual experience, stated the following:

"I went to the Gercüş district to help my friends with lentil harvesting. We saw this giant grasshopper in the field. First, we picked it up, examined it, and when we put it on the ground, it started walking. Then we gave it some meat, and it ate what we gave. I think these creatures are not harmful to agriculture. They are quite harmless; please, no one should kill them."

It is known that carnivorous grasshoppers, occasionally seen in the region and notable for their size, feed particularly on other insects that are agricultural pests.
