In an incident at a nightclub in England, a jealous man attacked a person talking to his girlfriend with a glass, severing his ear. According to security camera footage, the attacker jumped on the man sitting on the dance floor and struck him in the face with a glass.
The incident began on March 28 when 27-year-old Beau Lyons went to Newport with his girlfriend Shaunnia Connolly and a friend. After visiting several bars, they went to a nightclub called Mojo's around 11 PM. A brief argument occurred between Lyons and his girlfriend. During this time, Connolly was dancing while Lyons was waiting at the bar.
At the nightclub, a man named Shane Edwards danced with Connolly and bought her a drink. Edwards, who does not remember what happened next, opened his eyes in the hospital covered in blood from the chest down. According to security camera footage, Lyons suddenly jumped on Edwards and struck him in the face with a glass, then threw him onto a table and continued to beat him. Security personnel intervened and removed Lyons from the premises. Lyons, who tried to escape, was quickly caught and arrested.
Edwards had glass embedded in his ear. He suffered a 5-centimeter deep cut on his left ear, and the lower part of his ear was almost completely severed. After the injury, he developed an infection in his ear and began to experience hearing loss.
Victim Edwards stated that he was psychologically devastated after the incident: "I am constantly anxious now, I can't go out alone. My ear has permanently changed shape, and people mock my appearance. This has greatly reduced my self-confidence."
The attacker, Beau Lyons, admitted to the assault but claimed he did not remember the moment of the incident. He stated that he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. He also mentioned that he struggles with anxiety and nightmares.
Lyons's lawyer noted that his client has a young child and has started his own business. The judge emphasized that Lyons used the glass as a weapon and sentenced him to 3 years in prison.
