27 FLOORS, 150 THOUSAND SQUARE METERS OF INDOOR SPACE
The construction of the Caprice Gold Hotel, located in Bayrampaşa and started in 2010, was abandoned in 2014. 28,130 people who paid money with the dream of owning a 7-star hotel and timeshare became victims. Fadıl Akgündüz, known to the public as 'Jet Fadıl', was sentenced to 2,504 years in prison and fined 12 million 20 thousand lira in the lawsuits filed against him. The victims, who could not receive their timeshares, came together over the years to establish the Caprice Gold Victims Association. Some of the victims seeking their rights under the association have passed away, while others continue their legal battles. Recently, all the authorities of the project were transferred to the bankruptcy court, which includes the victims. The Caprice Gold Hotel and Timeshare project, built on 30 acres of land, has 27 floors and 150 thousand square meters of indoor space and was put up for sale for 350 million dollars.
"THERE ARE 28,130 VICTIMS"
Talip Metehanoğlu, President of the Caprice Gold Victims Association, stated, "Let me talk about the location of our building, it has 27 floors, 30 acres, and 150 thousand square meters of indoor space, there is no obstacle to selling. All responsibility and authority are with us at the bankruptcy court. We are urgently waiting for it to be sold, we are waiting for applications. There are 28,130 victims; but there is a management plan for this place. They have completely transferred their authorities to us. 83% have gone bankrupt. The one who buys it becomes the complete owner. Therefore, there will be no problem for the buyer. There will be no issue. We will also help. Everyone's payment is separate, and what they will receive is also separate. The bankruptcy court will have deposited their payments, and will have deposited the money of those who apply." he said.
"WE WANT 350 MILLION DOLLARS"
Metehanoğlu expressed that they are waiting for the building to be sold, saying, "Especially we implore our President, those who govern the state, and the ministers to pay attention to us as soon as possible. Whatever is necessary, if they think of it as a dormitory, we will help, if they think of it as a hospital, we will help. As victims, we are ready to do everything we can. There are 28 thousand victims, but only 3 thousand have applied to us. Currently, there is a claim of 8-9 billion. We want 350 million dollars. This amount will depend on the demand. If the current amount is 9.5 billion, we will finalize it that way. We spoke with the mayor, there will be no problem. 'We will provide the necessary assistance to the victims,' he said. There are 3 licenses, one for residence, one for hotel. We are in a tight spot, we are in a crisis, we are in trouble. We are waiting for news from the authorities as soon as possible," he stated.
"HOTEL, HOSPITAL, AND DORMITORY CAN BE BUILT"
Metehanoğlu indicated that the building could be evaluated as a hospital and hotel, stating, "It was considered as a hospital, it was checked and found to be in a viable condition. It was considered as a dormitory, it was checked and found to be in a viable condition. This place is suitable for everything. 30 acres, 3 independent sections, 3 entrances, three buildings can be designed as desired. They said it is resistant to the 10-point earthquake, which we know as the end of the world. It is suitable for everything. The ministry's budget is included in something. They say, 'It is not enough to say we bought it; it is not enough to say we sold it. It needs to be put into a program, we need to create a budget.' A hotel can be built, a hospital can be built, a dormitory can be built. This place is suitable for all of them. Bayrampaşa is in the middle of Istanbul and has 30 acres of land. The highest level of license has been granted here," he said.
CAPRICE GOLD PROJECT
When construction of Caprice Gold began in 2010, it was introduced as a hotel with 1,300 rooms and 3,300 beds. The project's promotion at that time stated, 'It has 14 royal suites and 234 special palace halls.' The project included a 5-story parking lot, 4 lobbies (one exclusively for women), and a total of 35 pools (24 indoor and 11 outdoor) along with 7 thermal baths planned to be in service. It was said that Caprice Gold, in addition to the hotel, consisted of a usage area for 15,000 people with its meeting and conference halls and various restaurants, and 7,900 timeshares were sold within the scope of the project in 2012.
