The discussions on the draft law continued in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly under the shadow of the Kahramanmaraş school attack. Deputy group chairs of political parties represented in the parliament jointly called for urgent and comprehensive steps to protect children and prevent similar incidents, drawing attention to increasing violence, individual armament, and security vulnerabilities in educational institutions. DEM Party Deputy Group Chair Temelli stated, 'Schools should be closed until Monday.'
We hope we are mistaken, but we must know that we are facing a multi-layered, multi-faceted, very serious problem, and this problem will continue to increase. If we proceed with this mindset, if the necessary measures are not taken, all of us together, each one of us, every political party, by taking hold of one end of this issue, as part of the solution, if we do not mobilize to solve this problem, it will continue to grow. Each of our hearts is aching today, we are losing our children, our schools are unsafe, but today we must insistently discuss what needs to be done.
"MULTI-FACETED REGULATION IS A MUST"
AK Party Deputy Group Chair Özlem Zengin stated that the incident will be examined in all its aspects, saying that not only security but also the influence of media and digital content must be taken into consideration. Zengin pointed out the importance of comprehensive regulations for the protection of children.
Zengin said, "We will learn the details of the incident. There are restrictions regarding the media. There should be. We talked about it yesterday as well. Because the perpetrators are being glorified. There are examples in America. The children who carry out these attacks become examples. Of course, we have political objections. But as far as I know, respect is paid to the deceased at the funeral home. People focus on the issue there. At least the country's problems will not change until tomorrow. This is what we see from here. Our ministers, our deputies, everyone is making an effort to reach Kahramanmaraş. Examinations will certainly be conducted. The law we are discussing also brings an important step with it. We need to impose restrictions for children under the age of 16. Television broadcasts certainly require very special supervision. There are many studies. Many of these children no longer watch television. These children are engaged with games. This law is taking a very important step regarding this issue. As for security, it's security. I think security alone will not be enough. I think the curriculum alone will not be enough either. We need to make regulations concerning all of them. What do we have more valuable than our children?"
CONDOLENCE MESSAGE
Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Pervin Buldan expressed condolences for those who lost their lives in the attack and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Buldan said, "We, as the council, also pray to God for mercy for those who lost their lives in the attack. We wish a speedy recovery to the injured and patience to their relatives. We say may we all have strength."
