In the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Can Holding, the statement of Mehmet Kenan Tekdağ, the Chairman of the Media Management Board of Can Yayın Holding, who conducted the sales transactions and was placed under house arrest, has emerged. Tekdağ, who disclosed his monthly income, stated that he did not know the source of the 350 million dollars paid by Can Holding.
An investigation initiated by the Istanbul Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Can Holding, which was transferred to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has resulted in detention orders for 10 individuals on charges of 'money laundering', 'smuggling', and 'fraud'. Six suspects, including Kemal Can, were arrested, while company executive Mehmet Kenan Tekdağ was released under judicial control with house arrest.
MONEY LAUNDERING DETECTED The investigation, which was expanded last Sunday, reached the Ciner Group. It was determined that money laundering from organized activities occurred during the sale of Can Holding to Ciner Media. A detention warrant was issued for Turgay Ciner, the head of Ciner Holding, due to his being abroad. A trustee was appointed to Park Holding, owned by Ciner, and three affiliated companies, while 12 suspects, including his son Atilla Ciner, were detained.
Turgay Ciner KEMAL CAN TARGETED TEKDAĞ The expanded investigation revealed the statement of Mehmet Kenan Tekdağ, the Chairman of the Board of Can Yayın Holding, who manages the media investments of the Can Group, which is in a bridging position between both groups and was placed under house arrest. In a statement, Kemal Can, the Chairman of Can Holding, who was recently captured and arrested, drew attention to Tekdağ by saying, "Mehmet Kenan Tekdağ organized the acquisition process of the media companies, including Habertürk and Show TV from Ciner Holding. He pressured me to acquire these media companies."
Kemal Can REVEALED HIS MONTHLY INCOME Tekdağ, who stated his monthly income as 1 million lira, was asked about the company named Doğal Yaşam İnşaat in his statement taken by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Tekdağ said, "It is the company that purchased the shares of Ciner Yayın Holding, of which I am the Chairman of the Board, from Park Holding. I carried out this transaction as the Chief Legal Advisor of Park Holding, which is the seller."
"I DO NOT KNOW THE SOURCE OF THE MONEY" Tekdağ stated that the total sale transaction was completed for 575 million dollars, saying, "300 plus 50 million dollars were paid in cash, and the shares were transferred once the payment was completed. The remaining 50 million dollars will be paid on December 31. The rest will be paid approximately in May or June 2026, one year after the sale was approved." He mentioned that Kemal Can informed him that he wanted to acquire Ciner Yayın Holding, stating, "Thus, the transfer negotiations began. I do not know the source of the money related to the transfer."
Kenan Tekdağ CLAIM OF "I SAW THE RECEIPTS" According to a report in Sabah, the investigation units found that no announcement regarding the transfer of shares was detected in the Trade Registry Gazette during the sale transaction. When asked about this situation during his interrogation, Tekdağ stated that all documents related to the sale transaction were submitted to the Competition Authority, and that the 350 million dollars paid in cash during the sale was transferred by the buyer to the seller's bank account. Tekdağ also claimed that he saw all the receipts related to the transfer transaction.
THE DOOR WAS OPENED BY HIS LAWYER NEPHEW AT HOME Tekdağ was admitted to a private hospital around 20:30 on September 10, the night before the operation. His nephew, lawyer Baran Umut Baycan, took him to the hospital. On the day of the operation at Tekdağ's home, Baran Umut Baycan greeted the law enforcement officers at the door. Baycan told the law enforcement officers that Tekdağ went to the hospital due to illness. In his interrogation, Tekdağ said, "Maybe he went home to calm me down."
"I HAVE NO CONNECTION TO CAN HOLDING'S BUILDING" In his statement, Tekdağ claimed that he has no shares in any company of Can Holding and does not hold any managerial position in any of its companies, stating, "I do not know their commercial activities. I have never been to the Can Holding building. I only know this holding and its affiliated companies as the public does."
Tekdağ stated that he is considering returning to Park Holding at the beginning of the new year, and that his close circle is also aware of this situation. He mentioned that he met with Kemal Can in the holding building the week before the last operation, stating, "In our meeting, Kemal came to get my opinions and advice regarding commercial activities."
