The group meeting standoff between Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Özgür Özel in CHP caused eventful hours in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. After it was announced that both figures would hold group meetings, security measures in the Parliament were raised to the highest level, while a notable density occurred in the CHP Group Hall.
SECURITY MEASURES INCREASED IN THE PARLIAMENT
According to information conveyed from the Parliament by Haberler.com Ankara Representative Şerife Güzel, riot police units were deployed at the Dikmen and Çankaya entrances of the Turkish Grand National Assembly from the early morning hours. While checks on visitors wishing to enter the Parliament were tightened, extraordinary activity was observed in the region.
The measures are considered to be implemented to prevent possible tensions due to the group meeting disputes within CHP.
FIRST TO ARRIVE AT THE GROUP HALL WERE SUPPORTERS OF ÖZGÜR ÖZEL
Before the CHP Group Meeting scheduled for 13:30, the hall doors opened at 09:00. Deputies supporting Özgür Özel came to the group hall early and took their seats. Thus, the first images in the hall before the meeting also emerged.
SOME DEPUTIES SPENT THE NIGHT IN THE PARLIAMENT
It was learned that deputies who came early and took their places in the hall would remain in the hall until the meeting time. Some deputies spent the night in the Parliament to enter the hall early.
TEZCAN: ÖZGÜR ÖZEL WILL OPEN THE GROUP
CHP Aydın Deputy and former Deputy General Chairman Bülent Tezcan was also among the first to arrive at the group hall in the morning hours.
Making statements to Haberler.com Ankara Representative Şerife Güzel, Tezcan said, "Our elected general chairman Özgür Özel will open the group and hold his meeting with the group as always. This is clearly stated in the institution's internal regulations."
Responding to the question "What will happen if Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu requests the floor?", Tezcan stated that the decision on the right to speak belongs to the chairperson of the session, saying, "The chairperson decides in which order and within what framework the floor will be given to a group member. In public group meetings, the general practice is for the group chairman to make his speech and conclude the meeting."
MURAT BAKAN: WE SUCCUMBED TO OUR EXCITEMENT AND CAME EARLY
CHP İzmir Deputy Murat Bakan, in his statement before the group meeting, said, "We are waiting for our chairman with excitement. That's why we came early. We succumbed to our excitement. I expect a very enthusiastic group meeting like last week."
ACCREDITATION APPLICATIONS ATTRACTED ATTENTION
Accreditation applications made to the Parliament Presidency before the meeting also reached a remarkable level. While Özgür Özel's team requested accreditation for approximately 4,400 people, it was learned that the number of applications made on behalf of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was around 1,400.
It is estimated that if no restrictions are applied, approximately 6,000 people may be present at the Turkish Grand National Assembly for the CHP Group Meeting.
