CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's statement that he does not regret his "yes" vote to lift Selahattin Demirtaş's immunity has sparked a new debate. Ceren Önder Kandemir, daughter of the late politician Sırrı Süreyya Önder, recalled that her father was imprisoned after his immunity was lifted and harshly reacted to Kılıçdaroğlu, saying, "You will not be remembered well."
CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's statement that he does not regret his past "yes" vote on the removal of Selahattin Demirtaş's parliamentary immunity has sparked a new debate in politics.
Following Kılıçdaroğlu's remarks, numerous criticisms emerged, and Ceren Önder Kandemir, the daughter of the late TBMM Deputy Speaker and politician Sırrı Süreyya Önder, also used harsh language.
"MY FATHER WAS IMPRISONED AT AGE 60"
In her statement on social media, Kandemir recalled that her father was sent to prison after his immunity was lifted, and said: "My father was imprisoned at age 60 due to a letter he read outside the podium as part of his duty, as a result of the lifting of immunity that you consider correct."
Kandemir stated that her father had suffered severe torture in the past and experienced health issues during his prison term, ultimately leading to his death.
"YOU WILL NOT BE REMEMBERED FONDLY"
In her statement, Kandemir also reacted to Kılıçdaroğlu's juxtaposition of Demirtaş with the concept of terrorism. Reminding of the grievances experienced by those imprisoned after the lifting of immunities, Kandemir said: "The curses of people who have been imprisoned since the lifting of immunities, who could not see their children grow up, and who could not attend the funerals of their loved ones are upon you. You will not be remembered fondly."
IMMUNITY VOTE AT THE CENTER OF THE DEBATE
At the center of the debate is the past vote in the Turkish Parliament on lifting the immunity of HDP deputies. While Kılıçdaroğlu stated that he stands by the support given during that process, his remarks drew reactions, particularly from DEM Party circles and some opposition figures.
