Journalist Kübra Par reacted to the detention of Barış Pehlivan, Serhan Asker, and Seda Selek by making a hand gesture, thinking that the broadcast had ended when the theme music of her main news program started playing. In a statement on her social media account regarding the incident, Par said, "I made a joke to our director, thinking that we had gone off the air."
The investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office led to the detention of journalists Barış Pehlivan, Serhan Asker, and Seda Selek last night.
TV 100 Main News Bulletin presenter journalist Kübra Par reacted to the decision during the broadcast. After the introduction of the main news theme music, Kübra Par, who thought they had gone off the air, made a hand gesture. An explanation from Par came regarding the moment that shocked the viewers.
"APOLOGIZED"
Par, who made a statement about the incident on her social media account, apologized, stating that the incident was just a joke. In her post, Kübra Par included the following statements:
"I MADE A JOKE TO OUR DIRECTOR"
"This evening, after the Main News ended, I experienced a live broadcast accident. For a few days, we had been going out a minute or two late from the Main News, and we were entering the broadcast slot of the Alfa Petek Competition Program. During the break, we joked about this with our director and made a bet. At the end of the news, the credits started, and he made a joke in my ear. Thinking we had gone off the air, I made a joke to him. Those moments were captured on camera. The incident has nothing to do with the current agenda. I apologize to all our viewers for the footage that emerged."
INVESTIGATION FROM RTÜK
RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin announced on his social media account that an investigation has been initiated regarding the hand gesture made by Par during the broadcast.
"WE ARE CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT MS. KÜBRA CAN DO WHEN SHE IS FREE"
In his statement, Şahin included the following remarks: "Kübra Par, who presents the main news bulletin on TV 100, has commented on the 'ethical' principles of journalism today. We are honestly very curious about what Ms. Kübra, who can comfortably make this inappropriate gesture by saying she is not free on a screen that addresses the public, can do when she is free."
"SINCE WHEN HAS PUBLISHING A SECRET AUDIO RECORDING FROM A MEETING BECOME JOURNALISM?"
As long as ethical principles are followed in Turkey, there is no problem in practicing free journalism. However, since when has publishing a secret audio recording taken from a conversation become journalism? This is not journalism; it is actually a violation of law and personal rights. If it is to be criticized from the screens, it should be criticized.
"THE NECESSARY ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AT THE FIRST MEETING"
Despite all our warnings, we regret to see that this rude behavior on TV 100 actually reveals the hidden intentions of some and that the issue is certainly not journalism. Our Upper Board has initiated an investigation regarding this immoral act directed at our people, and the necessary actions will be taken at the first meeting regarding the report to be prepared. It is respectfully announced to the public.
