In the Bayraklı district of IZMIR, residents of 3 nearby buildings were evacuated from their homes for safety reasons due to a landslide that occurred during the foundation excavation of a construction site.
The incident occurred at a construction site whose foundation was being excavated on 1620/5 Street in Alpaslan Neighborhood. While a landslide occurred at the construction site, upon notification, teams from the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), the fire brigade, and the police were dispatched to the address. As a result of the inspection carried out by the teams that ensured perimeter security, it was decided that residents of 3 nearby buildings, each consisting of 2 floors, should evacuate their homes as a precaution. Thereupon, 14 people living in the 3 buildings were evacuated.
THREE LANDSLIDES OCCURRED
One of the residents who evacuated his home, Mehmet Nuri Hasanoğlu, said, "We heard the same sound 3 times during the day. There was a collapse sound, but we could not see what it was. On the third time, there was a very large landslide. I was lying in bed; with the sound, I thought there was an earthquake. When I went outside, people had already gathered. Then I saw that the ground under the house had emptied; we could not understand what happened. It was probably due to the rain anyway. Right now, we are victimized and do not know what to do. Three of us are staying in the downstairs house; we have nowhere to go."
Another building resident, Mukaddes Duman, said, "I had to leave my home. I am victimized; in the morning the child will go to school, our exams are starting. My belongings remained in the house. We left in a hurry; perhaps we have nowhere to stay. They have to address this victimization. They should make my house fit to enter as soon as possible." she said.
THE AREA WAS CLOSED WITH A SECURITY CORDON
Procedures were initiated to place those who have no place to stay and who request it in a guesthouse. The area was closed with a security cordon due to the risk, while inspections continue.
