The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service claimed that French President Emmanuel Macron directly approved French intelligence to implement plans targeting certain leaders in Africa. It was alleged that Macron, inspired by the United States' kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, had Mali, the Central African Republic, and Madagascar leaders in his sights.

The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) claimed that French President Emmanuel Macron authorized secret intelligence operations targeting the "elimination" of certain leaders in Africa.

In a statement made by the SVR, it was asserted that the Macron administration aims to regain influence in the region following France's loss of power in Africa in recent years. The statement suggested that Paris views this process as a "political comeback."

The statement noted that the rise of populist and sovereignty-oriented forces in some African countries, which were former French colonies, has led to significant losses for the Paris administration, as these governments have refused to serve France's political and economic interests.

The statement claimed that Macron directly approved plans targeting certain leaders in Africa, suggesting that this approach may have been inspired by previous attempts against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

"FRANCE IS INVOLVED IN THE COUP IN BURKINA FASO AND AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON PRESIDENT IBRAHIM TRAORE"

The statement indicated that France's involvement in the coup attempt that occurred in Burkina Faso on January 3 has been identified, claiming that the coup plan also included an assassination attempt on Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traore. It was suggested that this attempt was unsuccessful, but France continues its destabilization activities in the Sahel-Sahara region.

"LEADERS IN MALI, CENTRAL AFRICA, AND MADAGASCAR WILL BE TARGETED"

The statement mentioned that attacks on fuel convoys, attempts to besiege cities, and terrorist actions against civilians have been carried out in Mali, claiming that these actions aim to overthrow the government of Mali President Assimi Goita.

It was asserted that similar plans exist in the Central African Republic, and Madagascar, which experienced a change of government in October 2025, is also among the target countries. The statement claimed that Paris aims to overthrow the Madagascar administration, which is taking steps to improve relations with BRICS, and to re-establish a government loyal to itself.

The statement alleged that France directly supports various armed and terrorist groups in Africa, suggesting that this policy has increased instability on the continent and deepened France's loss of reputation in the region.
