In a brief phone interview with the media organization, Trump refused to discuss the details of the ongoing search and rescue efforts following the incident, describing the situation as a sensitive military matter.
According to NBC News, the President expressed his discomfort with how the process, which includes efforts to locate the crew members after the jet was downed, was being portrayed in the media. When asked whether the developments would affect diplomatic efforts with Iran, Trump rejected the idea.

Trump told NBC News reporter Garrett Haake, "No, not at all. No, this is war. We are at war, Garrett."
TWO U.S. FIGHTER JETS WERE DOWNED
Earlier, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated in a comment to CNN that Trump had been informed about the U.S. fighter jet that was downed over Iran and later identified as an F-15E Strike Eagle.
The New York Times reported that at the time a F-15E jet was downed over Iran, an A-10 attack aircraft belonging to the U.S. Air Force also crashed in the Gulf region.
