Two people died in the rubble after a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Rescue teams also managed to pull a 91-year-old person alive from the debris. A state of emergency was declared in the area following the earthquake, and numerous teams were dispatched for response efforts.
Two people died under the rubble in a 5.2 magnitude earthquake in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. One person was rescued alive after the search efforts initiated following the earthquake.
EARTHQUAKE STRUCK AT MIDNIGHT
The earthquake occurred in Liunan County, Liuzhou City, under the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, at 00:21 local time. After the earthquake, recorded at a depth of 8 kilometers, search and rescue operations were launched in the area.
91-YEAR-OLD MAN RESCUED ALIVE
The lifeless bodies of 2 of the 3 people determined to be trapped under the debris were reached. In a statement by the local disaster management center, it was reported that a missing 91-year-old man was rescued alive from under the rubble around 11:10. It was stated that the elderly man, whose health condition was stable, was taken to the hospital.
STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED
After the earthquake, numerous emergency, fire department, and police teams were dispatched to the region. The Guangxi regional earthquake relief center declared a level 3 emergency as of 02:00 at night. It was announced that the Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management also sent a special team to the region to support the rescue efforts.
