After the court's absolute nullity ruling for CHP, which led to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's return to the chairmanship, a striking claim has emerged regarding Özgür Özel, who denies allegations of a new party. Mahmut Tanal, a Şanlıurfa deputy and one of the closest names to Özel within CHP, alleged that the presumed party Özgür Özel would establish has a vote share of 29.4 percent.
After the court's "absolute nullity" decision paved the way for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to return to the CHP Chairmanship, political circles are abuzz with new party claims. While departing leader Özgür Özel firmly denies allegations that he will establish a new party, internal party activity continues.
"IF ÖZEL FOUNDS A PARTY, ITS VOTE SHARE WOULD BE 29.4%" In this process, a striking claim came from Mahmut Tanal, CHP Şanlıurfa deputy and one of Özgür Özel's closest associates. Tanal suggested that if Özel were to form a new party, its projected vote share would be 29.4%.
CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal Tanal stated the following in his statement: "Özgür Özel's presumed new party: 29.4%
AK Party: 27.1% DEM Party: 8.2% Yeniden Refah Party: 7.9% İYİ Party: 6.9% Saadet Party: 5.8% MHP: 5.1% Zafer Party: 3.2% Current CHP: 3.1% Anahtar Party: 2.9% "CHP VOTERS ARE GATHERING AROUND ÖZEL" According to this table, CHP voters are largely gathering around Özgür Özel. It appears that social resonance, not the current CHP administration, is decisive. Politics that resonate with the public, not the CHP's nameplate, are becoming decisive. The AK Party falls to the position of the second party.
As fragmentation in the opposition increases, breathing space for the government emerges. Any intervention that weakens the CHP's institutional power disperses the opposition's total strength. Judicial and political interventions produce results that directly affect voter will. An impression is forming that court processes and political operations are now trying to determine the outcome at the ballot box."
ÖZEL'S STERN RESPONSE TO THE "LET'S FORM A NEW PARTY" PROPOSAL Meanwhile, according to claims, some deputies suggested to Özgür Özel that a new party should be established. However, it was alleged that Özel was not receptive to this proposal and conveyed that he would continue his struggle under the CHP umbrella until the very end.
WHAT HAPPENED? The Ankara Regional Court of Appeals issued an absolute nullity decision for CHP. The 38th Ordinary Congress of CHP, held on November 4-5, 2023, was annulled.
It was decided to suspend CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, and members of the Central Executive Board (MYK) and High Disciplinary Board (YDK). The court also ruled that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, and members of the Party Assembly (PM) and High Disciplinary Board (YDK) should provisionally assume office. With the annulment of the congress, all ordinary and extraordinary congresses held after that date and the decisions taken also became invalid.
WHAT DID THE COURT DECISION SAY? In its decision, the 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Appeals stated: "It is decided that Chairman Özgür Özel, members of the Central Executive Board, Party Assembly members, and High Disciplinary Board members, who came to office through the congress dated November 4-5, 2023, which is tainted with absolute nullity, be provisionally suspended from duty, and that Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and the Party Assembly and High Disciplinary Board members who were in office prior to the congress dated November 4-5, 2023, provisionally assume office and have their duties reinstated until the decision becomes final."
