In Yemen, Iran-backed Houthis targeted military camps affiliated with the Yemeni government and Saudi Arabian military buildups with ballistic missiles and drones. In the attacks, 30 soldiers were killed, while hundreds of soldiers siding with Saudi Arabia were killed or wounded.
Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen issued a statement regarding attacks on military camps belonging to the Emergency Forces affiliated with the Yemeni government. Yahya Saree, spokesman for the Houthis' armed wing, claimed that the attacks were carried out against what is alleged to be Saudi Arabia's military preparations in the region.
"MILITARY BUILD-UPS HAVE REACHED FINAL PREPARATION STAGE"
Drawing attention to the recent tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, Saree accused the Riyadh administration of making military preparations against Yemen.
Saree said, "As the Saudi enemy insists on continuing its siege and attacks against the Yemeni people for nearly 12 years, our armed forces have determined that Saudi Arabia has made large-scale military build-ups aimed at escalating tension against the Yemeni people, and these have reached the final preparation stage."
"WE TARGETED WITH NUMEROUS BALLISTIC MISSILES AND DRONES"
Saree, stating that the Houthis carried out a comprehensive military operation following this development, also announced the regions where the attacks were conducted.
Saree stated, "Accordingly, our armed forces carried out a large-scale and qualitative military operation targeting military build-ups of Saudi forces in the Al-Ruwayk, Al-Aber, and Al-Saniyya areas, as well as other camps belonging to the 1st and 3rd Emergency Divisions, with numerous ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)."
CLAIM OF "HUNDREDS OF SOLDIERS KILLED OR WOUNDED"
The Houthis claimed that hundreds of soldiers siding with Saudi Arabia were killed or wounded as a result of the attacks.
The statement included, "In the al-Wadia area in the east of the country, numerous camps, military build-ups, warehouses, and weapons belonging to Saudi forces were destroyed. Many military vehicles present in the targeted camps were destroyed."
The figures for casualties and damage announced by the Houthis have not been confirmed by independent sources.
WARNING TO SAUDI ARABIA
In their statements, the Houthis also warned Saudi Arabia against "engaging in adventurous initiatives" against Yemen. They argued that the Riyadh administration would be responsible for the consequences of further escalation of tension in the region.
The statement also called on those in the camps belonging to the Emergency Forces to leave their locations.
The Houthis stated, "We advise those among our people who are misled and deceived to leave the camps of the Saudi enemy and return to their homes before it is too late."
