Anwar Ibrahim says he obtained majority support of parliament members to form government.

Malaysian key opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday claimed he has obtained the majority support of the members of the parliament to form the government.

"I have a strong formidable convincing majority. Not a small majority," local daily The Star "ed Ibrahim as saying during a news conference.

"We need a strong, stable government to run the country. Includes Barisan MPs. The discretion to dissolve the parliament is the sole prerogative of the [King] Agong. I spoke to him on Monday night," he added.

He also noted: "This is not a backdoor government, this is a government that has the mandate and support. Of course it is a Malay-majority government, but will be inclusive so that every community is represented."
