While the repercussions of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer's arrest for the crime of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization" and the appointment of a trustee continue, a noteworthy evaluation on the matter also came from Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who did not attend the rally in Esenyurt. "THE DIFFERENT INTERPRETATIONS ARE INDIVIDUAL INTERPRETATIONS"Mansur Yavaş attended the opening ceremony of the "Youth Academy Ulus" project implemented by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. Speaking at the ceremony, Yavaş stated that there cannot be a double standard in law, saying, "If an arrest was made by going back 5-10 years and looking at phone records, as a lawyer, I can say that surely no one from the ruling circles would remain outside. Because in our complaints, most of them have not even been investigated. There cannot be a double standard in law, and non-custodial trials and the presumption of innocence are fundamental. No one has the freedom to commit crimes; we do not advocate such a thing, but if there is a crime, there is no possibility of destroying evidence. If they have a fixed residence, it is more appropriate to give them the opportunity to defend themselves by being tried without detention. We have said what we need to say on this matter. Different interpretations were made regarding my not going there, but most of our mayors could not go either. Everyone has their own schedules. Our Çankaya Mayor went there as a representative. Our provincial chairman has already made the necessary statement as a provincial organization. I think that different interpretations are now individual comments," he expressed. "THE CHP WILL STAND BY ITS OWN MAYOR"After his statement, Yavaş answered questions from the press. In response to a question about claims that some names within the CHP criticized the joint rally with the DEM Party, Yavaş said, "I have heard this too. Of course, first and foremost, the Republican People's Party will stand by its own mayor. It is important for everyone to support someone when they are subjected to injustice, but I have also heard something like this. I heard that despite having an official from the Felicity Party there, they were not allowed to speak. I look at the situation this way: No one should steal the show. Everyone should rebel against injustice. But of course, the Republican People's Party will be behind this. Their objections to the images there come from the fact that everyone within the Republican People's Party can express their opinions freely. In this regard, public statements are already being made these days," he replied. "THE PUNISHMENT OF A BABY KILLER, A PERSON WITH A CONFIRMED SENTENCE..."Before the 2023 General Elections, Yavaş expressed that some groups felt unjustly accused, saying, "On one hand, a role is being attempted to be given to a person whose crime has been confirmed as a baby killer terrorist leader by both the local court and the human rights court. An office is being attempted to be given. On the other hand, with such operations, the Republican People's Party is being associated with terrorism. From this point on, there is no topic left to discuss. In the face of saying that a baby killer, that is, a person with a confirmed sentence, should be allowed to speak about the 'Grand National Assembly of Turkey,' there is no topic left to discuss. These issues are already very misunderstood in Turkey. Who is the interlocutor? It is wrong to consider a person with a confirmed crime as an interlocutor. Again, who decides who represents our Kurdish citizens, who are expressed as 5 million, 10 million, or 20 million according to the population? Many people strongly oppose both the DEM Party and the representation of the terrorist leader as their representative. Therefore, the only thing to discuss is the law. The priority is the law and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. There is no other power beyond that. If there is a negotiation behind closed doors, we cannot know that, but everything should be done transparently in front of the public, which will also relieve society. We have seen the end of those who make decisions outside the law in this way. As a lawyer, I recommend to the entire justice community not to deviate from the law and to adhere to what the law commands," he said. "I AM NOT THE ONE WHO HAS LOST HIS ORBIT"Yavaş stated that he hung Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's words "We are nationalists; we are directly Turkish nationalists" in Ulus Square, saying, "One of the six arrows of the Republican People's Party is nationalism, but it is clear that those who make this criticism may have forgotten these attributes and may now be placing the Republican People's Party in a different context. I am a Turkish nationalist who is committed to Atatürk's principles, and there are many people within the Republican People's Party who think like me. I want this to be known. I am not the one who has lost his orbit; those who make these criticisms are the ones who have lost their orbit. They forget that the CHP is the party that founded this Republic and try to impose different meanings. It will never deviate from this line. Everyone must conduct their politics along this line. Unity and integrity, a unitary state, parliamentary democracy. These are our essentials. They are also the essentials of the Republican People's Party. In this regard, there is a signature given at the table of six. They have not made any statement so far that would nullify this signature," he said.
