Former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek will testify as a suspect tomorrow at 16:00 within the scope of the investigation into allegations regarding his family's companies abroad and money transfers. While Gökçek, who denies the allegations, says, 'I have no account I cannot give,' Murat Ağırel, who was heard as a witness, stated that the investigation could extend to many names.
Former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ibrahim Melih Gokcek will testify tomorrow at the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office as part of the investigation being conducted against him.
In the investigation carried out by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Organized Crimes Investigation Bureau, allegations regarding Gokcek's and his family's companies and assets abroad, as well as claims of unregistered money transfers and criminal organization, are being investigated.
Following the allegations raised by journalist Murat Agirel about Gokcek's and his family's commercial activities abroad, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an ex officio investigation on August 29 regarding the claim that "unregistered money was transferred to companies abroad." Within the scope of the investigation, Gokcek has been summoned to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office tomorrow at 4:00 PM to give a statement as a suspect.
HAMAG COMPANY IN GERMANY IS AT THE FOCUS OF THE INVESTIGATION
A significant part of the allegations subject to the investigation consists of information about the HAMAG company, which journalist Murat Agirel brought to the agenda in his statements on ONLAR TV and in his articles in Cumhuriyet.
Agirel said that Melih Gokcek's son Ahmet Gokcek and his daughter-in-law Hulya Gokcek established a company named HAMAG GmbH in Dusseldorf, Germany. According to the documents relayed by Agirel, the company was established on August 30, 2022, with a capital of 30,000 euros. In its first year, the company had no employees and no turnover.
Agirel stated that the company's 2023 balance sheet included shareholder financing inflows of approximately 849,000 euros, and in the 2024 balance sheet, its real estate assets reached approximately 3,857,000 euros. Drawing attention to the expression "Bank Turkei" included among the financing sources in the balance sheet, Agirel brought up the claim that the money in question was transferred from Turkey.
Agirel also alleged that HAMAG purchased a property in Dusseldorf consisting of 15 apartments and two commercial units, and that the building in question was used as a dormitory.
"8.5 MILLION EURO COMMERCIAL COMPLEX" CLAIM
Another claim raised by Agirel concerned the commercial complex named Thomascarree located in the city of Velbert in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Stating that a sales contract for approximately 8.5 million euros was signed before a notary on May 21, 2025, for the complex, which has a leasable area of approximately 6,524 square meters, Agirel claimed that the transaction could not be completed because the purchase conditions could not be met.
Agirel also claimed that the company later changed its name to HAMAG Holding GmbH and that negotiations were held for the purchase of a shopping center in Luxembourg valued at approximately 180-200 million euros, but the agreement was not reached.
Emphasizing that the rapid growth of the company does not by itself constitute a crime, Agirel stated that how the financing of the real estate investments was provided needs to be clarified.
AGIREL TESTIFIED AS A WITNESS
Journalist Murat Agirel, who brought the allegations about Gokcek and his family to the agenda, also testified as a witness to the Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor of Ankara within the scope of the investigation. After the testimony procedures, Agirel, who made a statement in front of the courthouse, said he submitted all the documents and information in his possession to the prosecutor's office.
"THE INVESTIGATION WILL EXTEND TO MANY NAMES"
Stating that he believes the investigation will not be limited only to Gokcek, Agirel used the following statements: "The investigation will expand greatly. It will extend to many names. I am of this opinion, I hold this view. And ultimately, I believe that as a result of a much larger investigation, a much bigger event, a chain of events, will be revealed."
GOKCEK DENIED THE ALLEGATIONS
Melih Gokcek, on the other hand, denied the allegations raised by Murat Agirel. Arguing that the allegations, particularly regarding the properties claimed to belong to him, do not reflect the truth, Gokcek stated that he queried the records of the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre via e-Government and that there is no land registry record matching his Turkish Republic ID number. Gokcek also announced that he would file a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office due to Agirel's allegations.
MADE A STATEMENT ABOUT INVESTMENTS IN GERMANY
In his statement regarding the real estate investments in Germany, Gokcek said that his son Ahmet Gokcek and his grandchildren established a company and bought two apartments in order to obtain citizenship from Germany. Stating that the credit and mortgage system was used in these purchases, Gokcek argued that Ahmet Gokcek transferred the money he obtained from selling his house and car to Germany through the bank by legal means.
Gokcek, who made a statement after the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced it had launched an investigation, said the following: "With God's permission, I have no account that I cannot give. I will provide the necessary information to the prosecutor's office. I am surrendering myself to Turkish justice."
AGIREL RESPONDED TO GOKCEK WITH DOCUMENTS
Following Gokcek's denial of the allegations, Murat Agirel also made a new statement. Stating that the property information he brought to the agenda was based on official records, Agirel used the following statements in his post on his social media account: "The information I shared is based on official records found in the case file of Legal Case No. 2019/236. There is no confidentiality in the file. The information is public."
ABB HAD ALSO FILED A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT AGAINST GOKCEK
During the investigation process, the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) also filed a separate criminal complaint against Melih Gokcek. ABB Attorney Nadi Turkaslan announced that on August 7, 2026, a criminal complaint was filed with the Organized Crimes Investigation Bureau against former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gokcek, his family, Beyaz TV Ankara and Osmanli Spor executives, and some individuals, on charges of being a criminal organization.
Turkaslan stated that they had previously applied to the chief public prosecutor's office with a request to investigate the assets of Gokcek and his relatives on the claim that they had "acquired property without cause." He stated that with the ex officio investigation initiated following the allegations raised by Agirel, the two previous applications could be merged and the investigations could be conducted together.
GOKCEK'S REACTION TO THE "CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION" EXPRESSION
Melih Gokcek, on the other hand, reacted to Turkaslan's statement describing the Gokceks as a "criminal organization." Stating that these words constitute a "serious criminal accusation" against him and his family, Gokcek announced that they had filed a criminal complaint regarding the issue. Gokcek is expected to respond tomorrow during his testimony to the allegations regarding the foreign companies, real estate investments, and money transfers that are the focus of the investigation.
