Chinese scientists have revealed that men need to exercise nearly twice as much as women to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
The research conducted by Chinese scientists examined the relationship between exercise frequency and the likelihood of developing heart disease in relation to gender.
STRIKING RESULTS
In a study involving approximately 85,000 participants aged 37 to 73 from the UK, accelerometers were worn on the participants' wrists for a week to measure body movements and activity levels.
"MEN SHOULD EXERCISE TWICE AS MUCH AS WOMEN"
Based on data analyzed over approximately 8 years, it was determined that men need to engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity nearly twice a week compared to women to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
While it was found that women who exercise approximately four hours a week at a moderate to high intensity have about a 30% lower risk of developing coronary heart disease compared to men, it was revealed that men need to engage in about nine hours of vigorous physical activity per week.
The research indicated that women with heart conditions need to exercise for about 51 minutes a week to reduce their risk of death, while this figure is about 85 minutes for men. The results of the study were published in the journal "Nature".
