According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM), today the weather will be partly cloudy and clear across most of the country. Starting tomorrow, thunderstorms and showers are expected in many provinces, especially İzmir, Antalya, Adana, Bursa, Ankara, Erzurum, and Diyarbakır. Temperatures are forecast to drop by more than 10 degrees in some provinces until Thursday. According to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), rainfall in Istanbul will begin on Tuesday, with the heaviest rainfall on Thursday.
Turkey is leaving behind a weekend that passed with temperatures above seasonal norms, while entering the influence of cool and rainy weather in the new week. In MGM’s warning system, there is no meteorological warning for any province for today and tomorrow.
TODAY LOCAL SHOWERS IN THE SOUTH AND EAST
According to MGM’s forecast, today the weather across the country will be slightly cloudy and clear, and partly cloudy in the southern parts. After noon, local showers and thundery showers are expected in the Eastern Mediterranean, southern Kayseri, and around Nigde. In the evening, precipitation will be seen around Malatya and Elazig, and from the night hours in Southeastern Anatolia.
In the morning and night hours, haze and patchy fog are forecast in Marmara, the Northern and Inner Aegean, and the Western Black Sea. The wind will generally blow lightly from southerly directions, occasionally at moderate strength.
ALL PROVINCES GREEN ON THE WARNING MAP
In MGM’s MeteoWarning system, for today (October 11) and tomorrow (October 12), all provinces appear in green, meaning “no danger.” There is no province for which a yellow, orange, or red level warning has been issued.
RAINS START ON MONDAY
According to MGM’s 5-day forecast for provincial centers, on Monday thundery showers are expected in Izmir, Bursa, Antalya, Adana, Erzurum, and Diyarbakir, while isolated showers are expected in Ankara. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, thundery showers are expected to continue in all of these provinces.
The Eastern Black Sea is expected to be affected by the precipitation later. In Trabzon, very cloudy weather is expected on Monday and Tuesday, partly cloudy weather on Wednesday, and showers on Thursday.
TEMPERATURES WILL DROP RAPIDLY
According to MGM data, in Adana, where the temperature will reach 33 degrees today, the temperature is expected to fall to 21 degrees on Thursday. In the same period, the temperature is forecast to drop from 30 to 20 degrees in Antalya, from 28 to 20 degrees in Izmir, and from 28 to 19 degrees in Bursa. In Ankara, the temperature, which is 26, is expected to fall to 19 degrees, and in Diyarbakir, from 28 to 19 degrees.
In Erzurum, the highest temperature, which is 19 degrees today, is expected to drop to 15 degrees during the week, while nighttime temperatures are expected to range between 3 and 6 degrees.
MGM: 18 DEGREES IN ISTANBUL ON THURSDAY
According to MGM’s forecast, in Istanbul today the weather will be slightly cloudy, with the temperature ranging between 15 and 25 degrees. Partly cloudy weather is expected on Monday, with the temperature between 18 and 25 degrees. Along with the thundery showers expected to be effective starting Tuesday, the temperature is forecast to be between 15-20 degrees on Tuesday, 15-21 degrees on Wednesday, and 14-18 degrees on Thursday.
On Thursday, wind speed is expected to rise to 36 kilometers per hour. According to MGM’s 1991-2020 data, the average highest temperature in Istanbul on these days is around 21 degrees. Therefore, temperatures are predicted to fall below seasonal norms on Thursday.
AKOM: MOST RAIN ON THURSDAY
According to AKOM’s forecast, no precipitation is expected in Istanbul today. The temperature is expected to be around 15 degrees in the morning, 25 degrees at noon, and 21 degrees in the evening. The wind is expected to blow from the southwest at a speed of 5-15 kilometers per hour. AKOM reported that, starting Monday night, the influence of cool and rainy weather in the city will increase.
According to AKOM’s weekly report, 5-15 kilograms of precipitation per square meter are expected on Tuesday and 10-30 kilograms on Wednesday. On Thursday, which is expected to be the rainiest day of the week, the amount of precipitation is forecast to reach 30-60 kilograms per square meter. On Friday, precipitation is expected to decrease to 5-15 kilograms per square meter.
