Doruk Mining workers, stating that the promises made were not kept, resumed their action and were stopped in Beypazarı while trying to march to Ankara. After meeting with the Ministries of Interior and Labor and company officials, Independent Mine-İş President Çakır stated that the company cited 'not having money' as a reason for failing to make payments; the workers called for an action in front of Yıldızlar Holding on Thursday, June 4.

Doruk Mining workers decided to take action again, citing the failure to fulfill promises made during negotiations on April 28 between government representatives, company executives, and worker representatives.

WORKERS MARCHING TO ANKARA AGAIN BLOCKED

The path of workers who started walking from Beypazarı to go to Ankara was blocked. In a statement by the Independent Mine-Union, it was alleged that buses allocated by the Beypazarı Municipality to transport miners to Ankara were canceled three times due to threats of criminal sanctions from security and administrative authorities.

Intensive security measures were taken along the route of the workers who began marching after the buses were blocked. The union claimed that extensive checkpoints were set up by security forces in the Beypazarı and Ayaş regions, vehicles were stopped for identity checks, and a de facto blockade was implemented to prevent the workers' passage.

The miners, continuing their wait in Beypazarı, protested the events by banging their helmets on the ground.

MINISTRY MEETING ENDED: THEY SAID THEY HAVE NO MONEY

A delegation consisting of Independent Mine-Union General President Gökay Çakır, two union lawyers, and three workers attended an official meeting at the Ministry of Interior. The meeting, attended by the Deputy Minister of Interior, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security, and four company officials, addressed the grievances of the miners.

Speaking in front of the Miner Monument after the meeting, General President Gökay Çakır stated that the company cited cash shortage as the reason for non-payment. In response to journalists' questions, Çakır said, "They told us they couldn't find the money until now, that they have no money."

WORKERS HAVE 3 DEMANDS

The workers who participated in the meeting at the ministry stated that they had ended their actions due to commitments signed under the guarantee of three ministries, but were again victimized at this point. Expressing that they spent Eid al-Adha bitterly because they could not receive their rights, the workers listed the outstanding receivables as follows:

  • Severance and notice compensations,
  • Salary payments for the periods they were placed on unpaid leave,
  • Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) differences.

The workers stated that due to ongoing rights violations since 2016, they could not pay their rents and bills, and had to work daily jobs to make ends meet.

DECISION TO PROTEST IN FRONT OF HOLDING

Meanwhile, Gökay Çakır, who announced the decision to continue the struggle after consultation with the workers, announced the new action plan with the words: "The minister said salaries will be paid within a month, we do not accept that. We do not trust words. We will be in front of Yıldızlar Holding on Thursday at 12:00. If the money is paid by Thursday, fine; otherwise, we will enter Ankara. We will go to the ministries if necessary. These workers do not ask for charity, they want the fruit of their labor."
