Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, speaking at the High-Level Energy Ministers Session organized as part of the Zero Waste Forum, announced the new roadmap centered on two vital concepts that prevent waste and conserve resources: "zero waste" and "energy efficiency."
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that zero waste and energy efficiency are of critical importance for energy security, climate goals, and sustainable development, saying, "Zero waste and energy efficiency are the two main pillars of the same vision."
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar attended the High-Level Energy Ministers Session organized within the scope of the Zero Waste Forum. Speaking at the program, Minister Bayraktar touched upon recent global developments and said:
"The Covid-19 pandemic, supply chain issues, trade wars, natural disasters, conventional wars, and supply shocks in energy markets have deeply affected the world economy and energy systems. In these complex conditions, two concepts have gained vital importance: zero waste and energy efficiency. These two approaches share the same fundamental principle: preventing waste, using resources efficiently, and conserving valuable resources."
ENERGY EFFICIENCY IS THE CLEANEST AND FASTEST ENERGY SOURCE
Highlighting the role of energy efficiency in energy transformation, Bayraktar said, "Energy efficiency is our cleanest, fastest, and most accessible energy source. Every unit of energy we save reduces our import needs and strengthens our economic resilience."
OVER 20 BILLION DOLLARS IN INVESTMENTS WILL BE MADE BY 2030
Providing information on Turkey's energy efficiency targets, Bayraktar said, "In 2024, we implemented the Energy Efficiency Strategy Document and the Energy Efficiency Action Plan. Within the framework of this comprehensive roadmap, over 20 billion dollars in investments will be made by 2030, covering all sectors from energy production to industry, buildings to agriculture."
Bayraktar stated that they aim to achieve significant savings in energy consumption, adding that this also means preventing hundreds of millions of tons of emissions.
6.7 BILLION DOLLARS IN INVESTMENTS MOBILIZED IN THE FIRST TWO YEARS
Referring to the results achieved under the action plan, Bayraktar said, "In 2024 and 2025, 6.7 billion dollars in investments were mobilized in energy efficiency. Thanks to these investments, energy savings equivalent to 4.6 million tons of oil were achieved, and 14.4 million tons of carbon emissions were prevented."
Bayraktar stated that this emission reduction corresponds to the amount of carbon that approximately 13 million trees can absorb over their lifetime.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY IS NOW PART OF COMPETITIVENESS
Referring to the COP31 process to be held in Antalya, Bayraktar said, "Energy efficiency is not only an environmental issue but also an important tool for energy security and increasingly for competitiveness."
WE WANT TO INCREASE INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation in the global energy transformation, Bayraktar said, "No country can realize all its potential alone. We need stronger international cooperation, knowledge sharing, innovative financing models, and technology partnerships. Turkey is ready to increase cooperation with all stakeholders in these areas."
At the end of his speech, Bayraktar said, "Every recycled product, every prevented waste, and every saved unit of energy moves us toward a more sustainable future. Our planet's resources may be limited, but our potential in innovation, cooperation, and efficiency is limitless."
Following Bayraktar's opening speech, the High-Level Energy Ministers Session began. The session discussed international cooperation opportunities within the scope of energy efficiency, energy security, renewable energy investments, and sustainable development goals.
