Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that a judicial investigation has been initiated by the Gaziantep Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the knife attack against New Party Gaziantep Deputy Melih Meriç.

In a statement made on his social media account, Gürlek said: "I strongly condemn the heinous attack carried out against Gaziantep Deputy Mr. Melih Meriç. I wish a speedy recovery to our Deputy who is undergoing treatment, and I extend my condolences to his family.
To fully illuminate all aspects of this unacceptable attack and to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable before justice, an immediate judicial investigation has been launched by the Gaziantep Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. We are following the process closely and meticulously.
