Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that 5 people have been detained within the scope of the investigation into the attack on Fenerbahçe's team bus in 2015.

HERE IS THAT STATEMENT

"Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we continue our work with determination to shed light on events that have left wounds on the conscience of our nation and to ensure that justice is served completely.

The armed attack carried out on April 4, 2015, in Trabzon against the bus carrying the Fenerbahçe Sports Club football team remains fresh in our memories. This attack, in which the bus driver was seriously injured and the football players and club officials narrowly escaped great danger, has remained a wound on the conscience of our nation.

Within the scope of the work of our Department for the Investigation of Unsolved Crimes, which we established within our Ministry under the General Directorate of Criminal Affairs, the file has been re-examined; all evidence has been re-evaluated using new technological possibilities and current examination methods.

In line with the evidence and findings obtained from the new HTS and base station analyses conducted within the scope of the investigation carried out by our Trabzon Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an operation was carried out against 5 suspects this morning by our Trabzon Provincial Police Department; search and seizure procedures at the suspects' addresses and necessary judicial proceedings have been initiated.

The sole purpose of this investigation is to reveal, with concrete evidence, the person or persons behind this heinous attack carried out 11 years ago. Regardless of which team, which athlete, or which fan group it is directed at, our stance against violence in sports is clear.

On this occasion, I thank our General Directorate of Criminal Affairs, especially our Department for the Investigation of Unsolved Crimes, our Trabzon Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which is conducting the investigation meticulously, our public prosecutors on duty, our Trabzon Provincial Police Department, and all public officials who have contributed.

We will follow the process to the end to shed light on the questions that the Turkish football community and our nation have been waiting for years to be answered. We will not allow any person or group to be unjustly accused, nor will we allow the perpetrator of any attack to remain unknown."
