Ali İhsan Aydın, who had smart lenses implanted in a private hospital in Trabzon to get rid of glasses, lost his vision due to an infection that developed in his left eye after the operation, and his eye was removed. While Aydın filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office alleging negligence, the hospital claimed that the patient did not comply with hygiene rules.
Ali İhsan Aydın (56), who had smart lenses implanted at a private hospital in Trabzon to get rid of the glasses he used because he couldn't see far or near, lost vision in his left eye after the operation. Aydın, whose left eye was removed, filed a criminal complaint through his lawyer.
HIS LIFE DARKENED AFTER THE SURGERY Ali İhsan Aydın, a father of two living in the Ortahisar district, wanted to get rid of the glasses he used because he couldn't see either far or near, through smart lens treatment. As a result of his research, Aydın decided to have surgery at a private eye hospital he went to in the city center 1.5 months ago. Aydın was taken into surgery to have a smart lens implanted in his left eye. According to the allegations, severe pain began in Aydın's eye after the operation. Aydın, who was referred to a hospital in Ankara due to his persistent pain, had his left eye removed in an operation when no improvement was achieved. Aydın filed a criminal complaint with the Trabzon Chief Public Prosecutor's Office through his lawyer, alleging negligence.
"I WANTED TO GET RID OF MY GLASSES" Aydın, who had the smart lens operation because he wanted to get rid of the glasses he used, described what happened. Aydın said, "I wanted to get rid of my glasses and improve my quality of life. I wanted to see well and have a smart lens implanted. After the procedure, pain started in my eye. When I had pain in my eye, I called the doctor, and he said it was a normal process and would pass. I went to the hospital. They gave me an injection in my eye and told me I needed to protect my eye. When I got home and the pain started again, I went to the hospital, all the doctors examined my eye one by one and said there was nothing wrong with my eye. I came home again, and my unbearable pain continued. At night, I went to the hospital again; this time, my eye had started to become bloodshot. He dealt with my eye for another 1-2 hours and told his assistant to apply ointment to my eye. My pain just wouldn't go away. I went to the emergency room of the state hospital and called my doctor. I said, 'There is no light or image in my eye.' They referred me to the Medical Faculty, they operated on me, and cleaned the back of my eye. I could see a little again. The infection in my eye progressed. They gave me injections in my eye morning and evening, and on the fourth day, while I was sitting, my eye was gone. They sent me to Ankara. They removed my eye, saying there was nothing to be done."
"EVEN MY NORMAL-SEEING EYE IS BEGINNING TO LOSE ITS FUNCTION"
Ali İhsan Aydın, who claims there was negligence during the treatment process, said, "I think there was extreme negligence. My doctor was confident, and that was my biggest loss. Maybe with a simple ultrasound, they could have understood that I had an infection. What happened happened to my eye. My other eye even sees blurry. Even my normal-seeing eye is beginning to lose its function. I'm afraid to scratch my eye. I stayed in hospitals. I'm standing with medication. I go to psychiatry morning and evening. All this happened within 1.5 months. I was going to improve my quality of life and get rid of my glasses. That's why I wanted to have a smart lens. I could see with glasses. I'm an electrician; I can't tighten a screwdriver, I can't do my job. My quality of life has been reduced to zero. When I walk, I feel like I'm stepping into a void."
"MY WIFE'S PSYCHOLOGY HAS BEEN RUINED" Ali İhsan Aydın's wife, Aysel Aydın, stating that she has to accompany her husband in every move he makes, said, "My husband lost his eye. Wherever my husband goes, I have to go with him. He can't go alone. His work has been left unfinished. His psychology has been ruined. He doesn't leave the house. We've all been worn out as a family, we're done. Our children's psychology has also been ruined. My husband and I have become like two people. We are in a difficult situation, both financially and morally. Let everyone be punished. This is a very difficult process. They didn't even say 'get well soon.' How could we infect a closed eye? The man lost his eye. My life is over too."

We will do our best to identify those responsible for Ali Aydın's situation by proceeding with the judicial and legal process against all institutions, organizations, and individuals responsible."
STATEMENT FROM THE HOSPITAL On the other hand, a statement was made by hospital officials regarding the allegation. In the statement, it was stated that there was constant communication with the patient during the treatment process, and that the patient had been previously informed about the hygiene rules he needed to pay attention to after the operation. It was stated that in the hospital security camera footage, where the patient came for a check-up one day after the operation, he was seen wiping his face, forehead, and then his operated eye with a tissue in his hand. It was noted that the patient did not comply with hygiene rules and that there was no negligence on the part of the hospital or the doctor regarding the situation.
