The Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, made a statement in the Turkish Grand National Assembly that closely concerns tenants in Istanbul. Kurum said, "On October 24, we took the first step for our 500,000 social housing units. We will build our new homes in all 81 provinces. We will construct 100,000 of these in Istanbul. In addition to the 100,000 social housing units in Istanbul, we will also build 15,000 rental social housing units."

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum made a presentation regarding the activities of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change for the year 2025 and the budget proposal for 2026 at the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Stating that they have been working passionately and diligently with 50,000 colleagues to serve 922 districts in 81 provinces since they took office, Kurum provided information about social housing.
MINISTER KURUM: KEYS TO THE 455,000TH HOUSE WILL BE DELIVERED IN HATAY
Recalling that they laid the foundations of the first houses in 11 provinces on the 15th day after the earthquakes on February 6, Kurum used the following expressions: "Last year, we said from this podium, 'We delivered our 155,000th house.' and today we proudly say that we have added exactly 300,000 more houses to that number. Thank God we kept our promises. Inshallah, on December 27, in our Hatay, the heart of peace and civilization, with the presence of our President, we will say 'The Construction of the Century, Turkey's Success'; we will deliver the keys to our 455,000th home. We told our nation, 'This job is our honor, our dignity,' and thank God we kept our word. This success is the success of Turkey under the leadership of our President. This success is the success of the Great Turkish Nation, which never gives up trusting its state," he said.
"WE WILL BUILD 15,000 MORE RENTAL SOCIAL HOUSES IN ISTANBUL"
Expressing that they will add 500,000 more social houses to the 1 million 750 thousand social houses produced through the urban transformation mobilization, Kurum continued his words as follows: "On October 24, we took the first step for our 500,000 social houses. We will build our new homes in all 81 provinces. We will construct 100,000 of them in Istanbul. Again, we will build 30,000 in Ankara, 21,000 in Izmir, 15,000 in Konya, 13,000 each in Bursa and Gaziantep, and 12,000 in Hatay and Diyarbakır. In addition to 100,000 social houses in Istanbul, we will also build 15,000 more rental social houses.
We will not stop there; we will rapidly construct 500 neighborhood community centers, 500 kindergartens, family health centers, day care centers, condolence houses, guesthouses, and sports halls. We will carry neighborhood culture to sites. We will draw the first lots of our project, which has more than 5 million applicants, on December 29, and with God's permission, we will deliver our first keys in March 2027. With our social houses, which have a budget of 1.5 trillion lira, we will provide job opportunities and economic income in 300 sectors. We will balance rent and housing prices, strengthen employment, local development, and social welfare. We will work until there is not a single brother or sister in this country without a home."
