The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that a 78-kilometer South Marmara Highway will be constructed between Yalova and Izmit. As part of the project, a 6-lane highway, 14 interchanges, 8 tunnels, 9 viaducts, and 51 bridges will be built; the highway will accelerate transportation between the industrial and export centers in the Marmara region.
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu shared details about the Southern Marmara Highway Project planned to be constructed between Yalova and Izmit. The project, which will contribute to the industrial and export potential of the Marmara Region, aims to make transportation in the area faster and safer.
"ROAD TRANSPORTATION WILL BE FASTER"
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that the Marmara Region is one of Turkey's production and export centers, stating, "With the integration of Kocaeli, Bursa, and Sakarya, whose total exports will exceed 60 billion dollars by 2024, this project will be more efficient. Road transportation will become more effective, faster, and safer."
6 LANES MAIN BODY, TOTAL 78 KILOMETERS
Stating that the total length of the project is 78 kilometers, Uraloğlu explained that 66 kilometers of the highway will consist of a 6-lane main body with 3 lanes in each direction, while 12 kilometers will consist of connection roads with 2 lanes in each direction.
ROUTE CLARIFIED
Uraloğlu indicated that the Southern Marmara Highway will start approximately one kilometer north of Laledere village in the Çiftlikköy district of Yalova, and the route will proceed eastward, separating from the Istanbul–Izmir Highway. He stated that the highway will intersect the Iznik–Altınova road in Valideköprü village, reach the south of Gölcük, pass north of Yuvacık Dam and through Kartepe Neighborhood, and finally connect to the Ankara–Istanbul Highway south of Cengiz Topel Airport.
14 INTERSECTIONS, 8 TUNNELS, 9 VIADUCTS
Minister Uraloğlu stated that significant engineering structures will also be realized within the scope of the project, saying, "We will construct 14 intersections, 8 tunnels with a total length of 27.9 kilometers, 9 viaducts with a length of 3.3 kilometers, and 51 bridges with a length of 3.6 kilometers."
With the completion of the project, it is aimed to shorten transportation times in the Marmara Region, reduce logistics costs, and strengthen the connections between industrial cities.
