In a statement made through his social media account, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek emphasized that under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, determined efforts are being made in the fight against crime and criminals so that no unsolved case remains in the dark and victims' expectations for justice are met.

Gürlek announced that, under the coordination of the Department of Investigation of Unsolved Crimes, two more files have been solved as a result of the meticulous work of chief public prosecutors' offices and law enforcement units, thus a total of 60 files concerning 67 murdered victims and 7 injured persons have been solved to date.

20-YEAR-OLD FILE IN KIRŞEHİR TAKEN OFF THE SHELF

According to details shared by Minister Gürlek, the file of Rıza Güzel, who was reported missing by his family in the Akpınar district of Kırşehir on February 5, 2006, was reopened. As a result of witness statements, contradictory statements by family members, and technical examination of HTS/communication records, evidence was obtained indicating that the incident was an "intentional killing". In simultaneous operations conducted at 6 addresses identified in 3 provinces, 7 suspects were detained. After the suspects showed the location, bone fragments assessed to belong to Güzel were found. Of the suspects referred to the courthouse, 2 were arrested, while a judicial control decision was imposed on 1 suspect.

13-YEAR-OLD MURDER IN SAMSUN SOLVED THROUGH TECHNOLOGICAL ANALYSIS

The unsolved file regarding the killing of Arif Yılmaz with a firearm in the Çarşamba district of Samsun on June 1, 2013, was also reopened for investigation in line with developing technological capabilities. Existing evidence, witness statements, and communication data belonging to 28 people, including those for whom a decision of non-prosecution had previously been issued, were compared. In line with technical analyses and new witness statements, 2 suspects found to be connected to the incident were detained. After proceedings at the police station, the 2 suspects brought before the court were arrested and sent to prison.

"WE WILL NOT GIVE UP FOLLOWING THE TRAIL OF JUSTICE"

Thanking the Çarşamba and Kırşehir Chief Public Prosecutors' Offices conducting the investigations, as well as the Samsun and Kırşehir Provincial Gendarmerie Commands, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek said, "We will not give up following the trail of justice, shedding light on questions that have remained unanswered for years, and working to ensure that those responsible are held accountable before the law."
