The Minister of Treasury and Finance, Şimşek, attended the "Gençİz Summit" organized by Halkbank. In his speech here, Şimşek made important assessments regarding the Turkish economy and advised the young participants of the summit to invest in their futures. INVESTMENT ADVICE BASED ON CIGARETTE COSTPointing out the negative effects of cigarette consumption on individuals' budgets, Minister Şimşek calculated the annual cost of smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. He stated that if the annual cigarette expense were invested in a deposit account, a profit of 147,000 TL could be achieved. "THE IMPACT OF SMALL SAVINGS CAN BE VERY SIGNIFICANT"Minister Şimşek said, "I hope none of you smoke. On my way here, I asked my friends, 'What is the average price of a pack of cigarettes in Turkey?' They said they didn't know, so I called our Deputy Minister, and he said he didn't know either. I said, 'I don't understand, research the average price when you get off the plane and tell me.' It turns out to be 75.24 TL; if you smoke a pack a day, your annual cost is 27,367 TL... If you just don't smoke for a year and invest that in a deposit for five years based on today's returns, it would be 147,000 TL, just for not smoking for a year... The impact of small savings can be very significant," he stated.
