The Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, denied the allegations that "registration fees" are being collected in schools, stating that no fees can be requested from any parents for registration. He noted that school-parent associations can make voluntary donation decisions if some parents request additional resources, saying, "We cannot prohibit this, nor can we prevent it."
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin made statements regarding the claims that "registration fees" are being requested from parents in schools during the program he attended.
"THERE IS A MISUNDERSTANDING HERE"
Tekin emphasized that no additional fees can be requested for registration, stating, "If a parent says, 'They are asking us for a fee to register my child in school,' there is a misunderstanding here. We do not grant any additional initiative for registration. It is clear which school each student will be registered in. The request for money for registration cannot be a subject."
"WE CANNOT BAN THIS, NOR CAN WE PREVENT IT"
Minister Tekin pointed to a different picture regarding the requests for donations from parents. Noting that extra facilities are being requested in some schools, Tekin said, "In some of our schools, it is requested to provide extra facilities for our children. Parents want this. For example, take the children on a trip or build a sports field, etc. They are requesting some investments that we do not make, and in return, the School Family Association says, 'We will provide these services. Therefore, we are asking for donations from parents.' This is a decision made by the School Family Association. Look, this is not a mandatory decision. It is a decision made among parents themselves. 'We want to provide these additional facilities for our children.' I emphasize again: No one has the right to force parents or students in this regard... We have already insisted on this in our circular. No one has the right to impose such pressure on anyone. But do School Family Associations do this? Yes, they do. But the school family associations already make a decision by gathering parents among themselves and say, 'In addition to the facilities provided by the state, we want to offer our children other facilities as well.' We cannot ban this, nor can we prevent it," he said.
"BANK" WARNING FOR PRIVATE SCHOOLS
Calling on parents who enroll their children in private schools, Minister Tekin said, "Those who purchase services from private schools should make their payments through banking transactions so that we can track them and prevent any grievances from arising."
MANDATORY EDUCATION PERIOD
Finally, signaling that the duration of mandatory education will change, Minister Tekin stated, "There has been a public opinion that it would be correct to reduce the 12-year mandatory education. As a government, we need to make a decision. We will share it when we make that decision."
