It has been reported that a molotov cocktail was thrown at the home of an imam in Bolton, England, where he lives with his family, and no injuries occurred.
MOLOTOV COCKTAIL THROWN AT IMAM'S HOME
In a statement from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), it was noted that police received a report on Wednesday, June 10, at 9:20 PM local time, regarding a suspected arson attack on a home in the Sharples area of Bolton.
The statement indicated that police are treating the incident as a "targeted attack," an investigation has been launched, and no arrests have been made yet.
The statement provided information that the attack was directed at the home of 42-year-old Imam Hassan Patel, where he lives with his wife, four children, and nephew, and that the seven people inside the home escaped the attack without injury.
SUSPECTS BEING SOUGHT
Greater Manchester Police Detective Chief Superintendent Mike Sharples stated in his remarks that such incidents are unacceptable in society and that no one should feel threatened or fearful.
Sharples noted it was fortunate that no one was injured in the attack, but the consequences of the suspected arson could have been much different.
Expressing understanding that the incident may cause concern in the community, Sharples reported that they are working to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
Sharples stated they believe the attack was "targeted" and there is no wider risk to the public, calling on anyone with information that could help the investigation to contact the police.
ATTACKER BROKE THE HOME'S WINDOW AND THREW THE BURNING SUBSTANCE INSIDE
Security camera footage shared by Imam Patel showed a person wearing dark clothing and a face covering approaching the home, pouring a liquid onto a cloth and setting it on fire, then breaking the home's window and throwing the burning substance inside.
The footage also captured moments when the attacker sprayed more liquid toward the home and the flames grew larger.
Patel expressed that his family was deeply distressed by the "serious and brutal arson attack," stating that the attack endangered lives, caused significant damage to the home, and led to serious distress for the family, including his children.
Patel, noting that he is an active citizen in Bolton and communicates with people of all faiths or no faith, said they do not know why his family was targeted.
Patel stated they understand the incident is not being treated as a hate crime and called for a thorough investigation into all possible motives.
