IT HAD BEEN IN SERVICE FOR 27 YEARS
The incident occurred on July 3 at night in the storage area of the Nostalgia Tram belonging to Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, located in Zerdalilik Neighborhood. The Nostalgia Tram, which had been serving city residents and foreign tourists for 27 years on the route between Zerdalilik Neighborhood, Isiklar Street, Ataturk Street, Clock Tower, Republic Square, Konyaalti Street, and Konyaalti Junction in the city center, had recently suspended its services temporarily due to technical failures and accidents to ensure passenger safety at the highest level.
MOLOTOV ATTACK ON CAMERA
In the storage area in Zerdalilik Neighborhood, a flammable and ignitable substance, considered to be a Molotov cocktail, was thrown at the parked trams by unidentified individual or individuals in the early hours of the previous night. In the incident, which was captured second by second on security cameras, the unidentified individuals fled after carrying out the act. A security guard who noticed the flammable substance thrown under the tram intervened and then reported the situation to municipal authorities.
ATTACKERS ARE UNDER 18
After the situation was reported to the 112 Emergency Call Center, police teams were dispatched to the scene, and an investigation was launched. Police teams began examining security camera footage from the storage area and its surroundings.
In the examination of security camera footage from the surroundings, police teams determined that the attack was carried out by 2 suspects believed to be under the age of 18. Police teams launched efforts to apprehend the 2 individuals who committed the act.
