THEY MOBILIZED TO PROTECT THE PATIENT ON THE OPERATING TABLE
In the images shared on social media, medical staff caught in the operating room during the violent tremor were seen making great efforts to protect the patient on the operating table. Moments when operating room equipment was violently thrown around and some workers lost their balance and fell to the floor were also captured on camera.
ONCE THE TREMBLING STOPPED, THEY CONTINUED WHERE THEY LEFT OFF
In the footage, two healthcare workers are seen holding onto the operating table to protect the patient from falling and flying debris around them. After the tremor ended, the team continued the operation. According to reports in the Japanese press, the surgery was later completed successfully, and the hospital resumed normal operations as of August 5.
38 PEOPLE HAD LOST THEIR LIVES
In a statement from Kumamoto Prefecture, it was noted that at least 38 people lost their lives in the disaster. Due to the earthquake, damage occurred to 3,851 structures, and 181 buildings were completely destroyed.
