A judicial decision has been made in the investigation into the sharing of indecent videos of an 11-year-old child on TikTok in Izmir. Following the victim A.A.'s statement given with a pedagogue at the Child Monitoring Center, the biological mother, Gülşen Aybek, who was taken into custody, has been arrested and sent to prison on charges of "using children in the production of indecent publications." As for the aunt, Menduha Vardal, who was found to have opened the social media account, a decision of house arrest and a ban on traveling abroad was imposed.
A report that obscene content of an 11-year-old girl was shared on the social media platform TikTok in İzmir prompted security and judicial action. In a swift operation coordinated by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, mother Gülşen Aybek, who was identified as sharing her own daughter's obscene videos and taken into custody, was arrested. The aunt, who was found to have opened the account, was sentenced to house arrest.
TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN A MIDNIGHT RAID
Teams from the İzmir Provincial Police Department's Public Order and Juvenile Branches began examining the scandalous content shared on TikTok following a report received on May 29. The investigation determined that the victim child, A.A., born in 2015, was used in the obscene images. Deepening the investigation, teams identified mother Gülşen Aybek and father Yılmaz Aybek as suspects. It was understood during questioning that the father was already in prison for other crimes. Subsequently, the teams carried out a shock raid on mother Gülşen Aybek's residence around 1:00 AM on May 30 and took her into custody.
AUNT ALSO INVOLVED IN THE SCANDAL
The 11-year-old victim child, rescued by police forces, was taken under protection and referred to the Child Monitoring Center (ÇİM) for procedures. The statements of the unfortunate child, taken with a pedagogue present, expanded the scope of the scandal and revealed another family member. The little girl confessed that the social media account where the obscene content was shared was opened by her aunt, Menduha Vardal. Following this chilling confession, aunt Menduha Vardal was immediately apprehended and taken into custody by police teams.
MOTHER BEHIND BARS, AUNT UNDER HOUSE ARREST
After completing their procedures at the police station, mother Gülşen Aybek and aunt Menduha Vardal were referred to the courthouse with a request for arrest on charges of "using children in the production of obscene publications." Of the suspects brought before the court, biological mother Gülşen Aybek was arrested for this horrifying crime and sent to prison. For aunt Menduha Vardal, it was decided to impose judicial control measures in the form of a ban on leaving the residence (house arrest) and a foreign travel ban.
DIGITAL MATERIALS UNDER SCRUTINY
All phones, computers, and digital materials seized from the homes of the mother and aunt as part of the investigation were confiscated. The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, together with cybercrime experts, is continuing its multifaceted investigations to identify other possible suspects who may have been involved with the disgusting images, including those who disseminated or purchased the videos. The victim child continues to receive psychological support under state protection.
