The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, is expected to return to the CHP, from which he resigned on February 8, 2021, approximately 4.5 years later, by attending the group meeting today with the leader of the Memleket Party, Muharrem İnce, whom he visited last week. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel invited İnce, whom he visited at the headquarters of the Memleket Party on June 18, to join the CHP. In a statement after the meeting, he described the Memleket Party as the party closest to the CHP, saying, "I also made a couple of sentences inviting Mr. Muharrem İnce and our friends in the Memleket Party to their home. Of course, the next step will be their own decision." İnce had announced that he would convene the authorized bodies of his party as soon as possible in response to this invitation. Özel, in a television program he attended, stated in response to a question, "Today, hopefully, they will make a decision with their provincial chairmen's meeting and their authorized board meeting."
İNCE IS RETURNING TO CHP AFTER 4.5 YEARS
According to information obtained from CHP sources, İnce will attend the CHP's group meeting in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey today to return to the party. İnce, who was a candidate for the party's chairmanship in the 2014 and 2018 congresses, was the CHP's presidential candidate in the 2018 presidential elections. While he was still a member of the CHP, he announced the establishment of the Memleket Movement on September 4, 2020, and officially resigned from the CHP on February 8, 2021. About 5 months after his resignation, he founded the Memleket Party on May 17, 2021. İnce is expected to return to the CHP tomorrow after approximately 4.5 years of absence.
Before 2002, İnce served as the Provincial Chairman of the CHP, and between 2002 and 2018, he was a Member of Parliament for Yalova. He also served as the group deputy chairman between 2010 and 2014.
