Retirees are focused on the July raise. The inflation data to be announced on July 3 will determine the raise rate for millions of retirees. While the government is preparing to submit a proposal to the Parliament to increase the lowest pension, two different scenarios are being discussed in the ongoing studies. Accordingly, the lowest pension will be set at either 16,850 TL or 17,100 TL.

As we enter the last week of June, more than 16 million retirees are eagerly awaiting the salary increase they will receive in July. After the June inflation rate, which the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) will announce on July 3, the 6-month salary difference for SSK, Bağ-Kur, and Pension Fund members will become clear. However, a legal regulation is required for the increase in the lowest pension.
THE CURRENT SYSTEM FORESEES AN INCREASE IN BASE SALARY
According to the Social Security Institution (SGK) regulations, the inflation difference is only reflected in the base salaries of retirees. Therefore, a proposal must be submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for millions of retirees currently receiving 14,469 TL to be able to receive an increase in July.
TWO SCENARIOS ON THE TABLE
The government will submit a bill to the Parliament in the second week of July to reflect the increase in the inflation rate on the lowest salary as well. According to the news from Besi Karalar of Ekonomim, there are two different scenarios being considered. According to these scenarios, the lowest pension will be set at either 16,850 TL or 17,100 TL. Both figures indicate an increase in line with the inflation rate.
4 MILLION RETIREES ARE WAITING FOR LEGAL REGULATION
It is estimated that approximately 4 million retirees will benefit from the upcoming legal regulation. The total cost of the 6-month salary increase is expected to be around 60 billion TL. This regulation aims to raise the income of retirees with low base salaries. The total inflation difference that occurred in the January-May period was realized at 15.09%. If the June inflation is 1%, the total 6-month difference will rise to 16.24%. In this case, the lowest pension will reach 16,819 TL with an increase of 2,350 TL. If the June inflation is 2%, the difference will be 17.39%, and salaries will increase by 2,516 TL, reaching 16,985 TL. However, these increases will only be reflected in the base salary. Therefore, a legal regulation is necessary for millions of retirees with low base salaries who will not directly benefit from this increase. The proposal that the government will present aims to maintain the welfare level of these retirees.
