The technology world is witnessing one of the biggest legal battles in history as the world's richest businessman, Elon Musk, has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft, claiming that the two companies have made unjust profits, seeking damages of up to $134 billion.

Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI founder Elon Musk has filed a new lawsuit against the artificial intelligence company OpenAI, which he previously supported, and technology giant Microsoft. In a petition submitted to federal court, Musk claims that OpenAI and Microsoft have gained "unjust profits" from his early million-dollar contributions, seeking damages between $79 billion and $134 billion.

"MY SHARE BROUGHT GREAT PROFITS" CLAIM

Musk states that he was among the first investors with approximately $38 million in the establishment of OpenAI in 2015, and that this contribution allowed the company to grow and reach a value of billions of dollars. The petition calculates that OpenAI has generated profits of between $65.5 billion and $109.4 billion, while Microsoft has earned around $13.3 billion to $25.1 billion. Musk argues that these profits are "unjust."

DISPUTE ESCALATES

OpenAI rejected Musk's claims as "baseless." The company suggested that Musk's demands are part of a "harassment campaign." The Microsoft side denied the allegations, asserting that they have not engaged in any unjust profits.

TRIAL IN APRIL BEFORE A JURY

A federal judge announced that following Musk's request, the case will be heard by a jury in Oakland, California, in April 2026. The lawsuit seems likely to keep two leading figures in the artificial intelligence world occupied for a long time.
