(ANKARA)

Baran Güran, the older brother of 8-year-old Narin Güran, whose lifeless body was found in Diyarbakır in 2024, and her uncle Ömer Güran visited YENİ Party Member of Parliament Türkan Elçi and YENİ Party Chairman Özgür Özel.

In a statement on his social media account, Narin Güran's older brother Baran Güran reported that he, her uncle Ömer Güran, and YENİ Party Member of Parliament Türkan Elçi visited YENİ Party Chairman Özgür Özel in Ankara.

THEY EXPLAINED THE SHORTCOMINGS IN THE CASE FILE

Baran Güran stated that during the meeting they told Özel about the legal shortcomings he said occurred in the Narin Güran case and their objections regarding the trial process, and noted the following:

"We told him about the legal shortcomings in the case of our dear daughter Narin Güran, who was torn from life at the age of 8, the injustices we encountered during the trial process, and the indescribable pain we carry in our hearts as a family. While we were still explaining our concerns, Mr. Özel intervened and personally raised the shortcomings in the case file; seeing how well he knew our case both moved us and gave us hope. Because now we want not only for our pain to be heard, but also for Narin's voice to be heard, and for her unfinished life and dreams buried in the earth not to be forgotten. While the pain of burying a child is already indescribable, we also carry on our shoulders the weight of having to seek justice after her. In such a struggle, feeling understood, listened to, and not alone is very precious to us.

I also sincerely thank our esteemed Member of Parliament Türkan Elçi, the precious wife of our late elder Tahir Elçi, who carried the weight and dignity of the Diyarbakır Bar Association and lives in our memories through his life devoted to law.

She herself is a person who knows very well what the search for justice and the deep pain left behind after a loss mean… Her being a voice for our Narin's case and sharing in our pain and struggle is indescribably precious to us. We are not asking anyone for privilege. We want the account of a child's unfinished life to be fully demanded before the law. Narin is no longer among us. But even though we cannot hold her tiny hands, we have promised to carry the struggle for justice to the end. Narin's voice will not be silenced. As long as we breathe, we will continue to demand justice for her."

THE SUPREME COURT HAD UPHELD THE SENTENCES

Regarding the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, the aggravated life imprisonment sentences given to the defendants—mother Yüksel, older brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran—were also upheld by the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation, while the Court of Cassation found the 4-year-6-month prison sentence given to the other defendant, Nevzat Bahtiyar, too low and overturned it, ruling that it should be evaluated within the scope of "aiding an act of qualified intentional killing."
