Romania reported that an unauthorized drone entering its airspace was shot down by NATO's Spanish F-18 fighter jets.
Romanian Defense Minister Radu-Dinel Miruta stated on his social media account that an unauthorized drone was detected near Galati in the southeast of the country, and that two F-18 fighter jets, which took off as part of NATO's air policing mission, were directed to the area.
DRONE FELL INTO A FORESTED AREA
Miruta reported that the Spanish F-18 aircraft intercepted the drone that entered Romania without permission, sharing information that the drone fell into an uninhabited forested area.
Miruta noted that efforts have been initiated to determine the nationality of the drone, and thanked the Spanish F-18 pilots and the Romanian army for their successful mission.
Meanwhile, in July, three drones that entered Romanian airspace without permission were shot down on three consecutive days.
