Gamze Dogan, who applied to a private hospital in Denizli to give birth to her second child, and her baby's death plunged the family into mourning. According to the family's claim, while no negative conditions were observed in the health of the mother and baby during prenatal check-ups, it was reported that the baby died after the cesarean section. Gamze Dogan, whose condition worsened after the birth, could not be saved despite being referred to Pamukkale University Hospital.
Gamze Doğan, who was pregnant with her second child in Denizli, and her baby allegedly lost their lives due to a chain of negligence at the private hospital they went to for the birth. After the cesarean section, doctors gave contradictory information about the baby's condition, the baby was stillborn, and the mother, who then deteriorated, died at Pamukkale University Hospital. The grieving father filed a complaint against the doctors and hospital management and initiated a legal battle.
Mehmet Doğan, who claims his wife and child, who entered the delivery healthy, lost their lives due to a chain of negligence in Denizli, recounted their ordeal. Gamze Doğan, who was pregnant with her second child, had all her pregnancy check-ups at a private hospital operating in the Pamukkale district. On the night of August 23rd, around 04:00, as her contractions increased, Gamze Doğan went to the hospital with her husband Mehmet Doğan. Initial checks showed that both the mother and baby were in good condition. The family, who planned a cesarean birth, was told by Obstetrician and Gynecologist S. G. that if the baby entered the birth canal, the cesarean could become more difficult, and it would be more appropriate to perform the birth that day instead of the planned August 28th. Following the doctor's advice, the family accepted the offer, and the mother was taken for delivery.
DOCTORS CONTRADICTED EACH OTHER After the operation, which lasted longer than usual, Obstetrician S. G. informed the family that the mother was doing well, but the baby had respiratory problems and the pediatrician was intervening. Shortly after, the pediatrician, who also provided information, stated that the baby was born blue and lifeless.
THEY REFERRED HER TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL After the birth, Gamze Doğan was taken to a regular room, where she stated she felt severe pain and contractions in a semi-conscious state. According to the family's claim, the nurses only applied serum and medication and monitored the process. However, after a while, it was noticed that Gamze Doğan's hands and feet were bruising and her postpartum bleeding was at a high level. Upon the family's reaction for the mother, whose breathing was also becoming difficult, the on-duty doctor and anesthesiologist who came to the room stated that the bleeding was excessive and informed them they would intubate the patient. After trying treatment methods for Gamze Doğan for a while, her condition rapidly worsened, and hospital officials, stating their facilities were insufficient, decided to refer her to PAU Hospital.
Gamze Doğan, taken to Pamukkale University Hospital by ambulance, received intensive blood transfusions and dialysis treatment there. However, despite all the efforts of the doctors at the university hospital, mother Gamze Doğan lost her fight for life.
GRIEVING FATHER STARTED A LEGAL BATTLE The grieving father, Mehmet Doğan, who lost both his baby and his wife, went to the police and filed a complaint against the private hospital where the initial intervention was performed, the doctors, and all personnel found negligent. Stating that the doctors did not attend to them, Mehmet Doğan said, "When we arrived at the Private Hospital we always went to with my wife, they first connected her to an NST. They stated the baby's heartbeat was normal and contractions could occur. We were admitted, and the NST data was sent to our doctor. Our birth doctor, S. G., suggested moving up the birth planned for August 28th, saying, 'If the baby enters the canal, our cesarean will be difficult; it's better to take it as soon as possible.' We decided on a cesarean at 06:48. However, the doctor neither checked the baby's movement with an ultrasound nor checked whether it had entered the canal. In my first child's case, the cesarean took about half an hour. This time, even though 1.5 hours passed, there was no news. Finally, Doctor S. G. came out and said, 'There is a problem with the baby's breathing, our pediatrician is attending to it.' I asked him, 'The baby's heartbeat was good on the NST, it was alive in the womb. Wouldn't a baby with respiratory problems have problems on the X-ray?' About half an hour later, the pediatrician came out and said my baby was stillborn despite all interventions," he said.
"IN MY EYES, THAT DOCTOR IS NOT A DOCTOR BUT A MURDERER" Stating that the doctors did not attend to his wife until the last moment even though her condition worsened, Mehmet Doğan said, "My wife's condition, brought to the room, worsened progressively. Her hands, feet, and nails were ice-cold and bruised as if drained of blood. Even though the nurses said the situation was normal and applied serum, I felt my wife was having difficulty breathing. Only after we practically cried out and reacted in the hospital did the doctors come to us. The anesthesiologist said they would intubate my wife to control her breathing and perform a tomography. By this time, it was 12:00. I started shouting and arguing for the doctors to come and attend to her. The hospital staff triggered a Code White. I called the police because I suspected my wife's condition. While waiting at the Forensic Medicine Institute for my baby's autopsy, we received news from the hospital that my wife would be referred to Pamukkale University Hospital due to the inadequacy of the Hematology Department," he said.
"NO ONE CAME UNTIL THE FAMILY SHOUTED" Stating that he will continue his struggle so that others do not suffer the same pain, Mehmet Doğan said, "When we reached PAU Hospital, the doctors stated my wife's condition was extremely critical. Stating that her kidneys had failed, her body was not retaining blood, and the bleeding wouldn't stop, they continuously gave blood transfusions. However, despite all interventions, I lost my wife. Death is God's command, but until that point, the doctors should have done their best. In my opinion, the doctor neglected his duty. I am in pain; I don't want anyone else to be in pain. In my eyes, he's not a doctor but a murderer," he said.
Arzu Ekizkurt, Gamze Doğan's cousin, emphasizing that there were many negligences by the hospital, said, "Mehmet called us and said, 'She had a stillbirth.' When we arrived at the hospital, Gamze's consciousness seemed to be coming and going slightly. They opened two IV lines on her arms. We asked, 'Why are you opening so many?' They said, 'In case an extraordinary event occurs, we can intervene.' They also injected her leg and put medication in the serum. What did we say? They said, 'For nausea,' and 'Painkiller.' Later, when we looked at Gamze's hand, her fingertips had turned purple. We called the nurse. We said, 'Her fingertips are turning purple.' They came. As we were watching them, her husband also arrived at that moment. Gamze lost consciousness then. The crash cart came to the room, but until the family shouted and screamed, not a single soul among the doctors came."
The nurse's aide and the nurse came and went. The anesthesiologist came and examined. After that, they took us out, emptied the room, and intubated. They went inside, general anesthesia was administered, and they did not let his wife in. There is a lot of negligence. No doctor came to check, and they from the University Hospital told us, 'Don't let this go.'" he said. .
