Egyptian President Sisi had invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the Gaza summit, which will also be attended by President Erdoğan. A statement from Israel indicated that Netanyahu would not participate in the summit to be held in Egypt.
President Erdoğan went to Egypt for a critical summit. Just hours before the summit, which will address the reconstruction of Gaza and the stages of the ceasefire, a surprise invitation came from Egyptian President Sisi.
SISI'S INVITATION TO NETANYAHU
It was stated that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was invited to the summit in Egypt by Sisi. In a statement from Egypt, it was said, "Netanyahu will attend the summit," while a surprising response came from Israel regarding the invitation.
NETANYAHU WILL NOT ATTEND THE SUMMIT
In a statement from Israel, it was expressed that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu would not attend the summit in Egypt.
LEADERS WHO WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE SUMMIT
The summit will be held in the conference center in the city under the name "Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit" in the afternoon. The Egyptian official news agency MENA announced the names of those who will participate at the level of president, king, and emir in the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit as follows: "Egyptian President Abdulfattah el-Sisi, U.S. President Donald Trump, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Jordanian King Abdullah II, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, French President Emmanuel Macron, and leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration Nikos Christodoulides."
It is expected that Germany, Iraq, England, Italy, Spain, Greece, Armenia, Hungary, Pakistan, Canada, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait will participate in the summit at the prime minister level.
MORE THAN 20 LEADERS WILL BE AT THE TABLE
Additionally, it was announced that Oman's Foreign Minister Bedr al-Busaidi, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, President of the European Council Antonio Costa, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Japan's Ambassador to Cairo Fumio Iwai will also attend the summit.
WHAT HAPPENED?
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on October 9 that Israel and Hamas had approved the first phase of the ceasefire plan in Gaza during ongoing negotiations in Egypt. While the agreement was signed in Egypt where the negotiations took place, it was activated in the early hours of October 10 with the approval of the Israeli government.
After the Israeli army withdrew to the "yellow line" as stated in the agreement, it was announced that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip came into effect on the same day at 12:00. During the period from October 8, 2023, until the ceasefire agreement, 67,682 people lost their lives, and 170,033 people were injured in the attacks carried out by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
