The brown marmorated stink bug, described as "the insect that will bring about the end of the world," has reappeared in the Black Sea and Marmara regions. A citizen, regarding the bugs that have infested agricultural areas in Sakarya, Samsun, Trabzon, and Giresun, made a striking warning on social media, saying, "This is a biological weapon; we are at the final turn." Experts are warning that the invasion could spread throughout Turkey.

"The bug known as 'the insect that will bring about the end of the world,' the brown marmorated stink bug, has emerged from hibernation and invaded homes and agricultural areas in Sakarya, Samsun, Trabzon, Giresun, and other provinces. Citizens and experts warn that the species could spread throughout Turkey.

THE INVASION IS SPREADING FROM THE BLACK SEA TO MARMARA

The brown marmorated stink bug has been spotted recently in many provinces, especially in Sakarya, Samsun, Trabzon, and Giresun. This invasive species, which hibernates during the winter, is re-emerging to target both homes and agricultural products. Experts and officials are calling for coordinated efforts to combat this issue.

CITIZEN'S WARNING ABOUT "BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS"

A citizen who shared on social media about the stink bug said, "I have been warning for years; for the first time this year, we are starting to be taken seriously because we are now living the days we predicted. Believe me, these are our good days. I call this a biological weapon. Unlike other pests, they do not target a specific crop; they infect and destroy all fruits, vegetables, and legumes you can think of before they even develop, while they are still in the formation stage."

"IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS IN OUR COUNTRY..."

Continuing his words, the citizen said, "I warn again: We are at the last bend." He continued: "Urgently, teams specialized in this pest, which I believe to be an advanced biological weapon, should be established. The fight should not be conducted as it has been for years, using chemical methods from where we sit, but rather through direct mechanical means. There should be coordinated action with the public; a stink bug reporting line should be established, and stink bug extermination teams should respond quickly. Otherwise —I hope I am wrong— in less than two years, we will be unable to access vegetables and fruits in the country, even if they are expensive. You will not be able to live in homes even in city centers. I have gained a lot of experience regarding the weaknesses of this creature; I am ready to do whatever it takes to fight without expecting anything in return. Please let our voice be heard."

CALL FOR COORDINATED ACTION

The citizen's warnings align with observations in the field; agricultural and environmental experts emphasize the need for rapid intervention using systematic and scientific methods. In addition to regional spraying, attract-kill applications, and mechanical cleaning efforts, the importance of establishing reporting lines and special intervention teams is highlighted.

AGRICULTURAL AND PUBLIC HEALTH RISK

Experts state that the stink bug can damage a wide range of products, especially hazelnuts, vegetables, fruits, and legumes; they warn that if effective measures are not taken, both economic losses and public health risks will increase. Authorities are expected to coordinate at both local and central levels, conduct rapid field interventions, and provide information to citizens.
