A statement also came from the party regarding the claims that $250,000 was left in Özgür Özel's vehicle for the furnishing of the New Party Headquarters by Emir Sarıgül, who is detained in a money laundering investigation. New Party Spokesperson Zeynel Emre said, "There are absurd claims. We will file a criminal complaint, and we will resort to legal remedies against these slanders."
YENİ Party Spokesperson Zeynel Emre said regarding the statements by Emir Sarıgül, who is detained within the scope of the money laundering investigation, targeting Yeni Party Chairman Özgür Özel: “There are absurd claims. We will file a criminal complaint, and we will resort to legal means against these slanders.”
STATEMENT FROM YENİ PARTY ON EMİR SARIGÜL
The Yeni Party Central Executive Board (MYK) convened at the party headquarters under the chairmanship of Chairman Özgür Özel. After the meeting, which lasted about 3 hours, Zeynel Emre made a statement. Regarding the fund investigation, Emre said, “With the decision taken last week, Borsa İstanbul General Manager Korkmaz Enes Ergün was taken into custody on the charge of being a member of an organization. It is an organized crime, yes, in the way we had previously predicted. So, in an environment where the organization’s member is Enes Ergün, who is the leader of this organization? Who founded this organization? Who is its founder? Can there be an organization without a head? The fact that this has still not been explained actually shows us that the incident is multidimensional and that a large number of people belonging to and close to the ruling party are among those hidden names.”
Speaking about his party’s congress process, Emre said, “Previously, we determined the provincial and district chairmanships by holding preliminary elections with the participation of members. This weekend, in 81 provinces and in more than 3,000 ballot box areas, our members will vote for the chairmanship election starting at 08:00 on Sunday morning and until 19:00 in the evening; everyone registered until November 5 will be able to vote in the chairmanship election.”
“WE WILL FILE A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT”
Speaking about the statements of Emir Sarıgül, who is detained within the scope of the money laundering investigation, Emre said, “We see that through Emir Sarıgül, the arrested son of Mustafa Sarıgül, unimaginable accusations have been made against our chairman. His father, so to speak, had 2 scarves bought, and who buys a scarf for whom in August? Money was allegedly placed inside this scarf and given to our chairman. Where was it given? It was given at dinner. That is, our chairman, on leaving the dinner—in an environment where more than 20 people were already present, where bodyguards were present, where bodyguards constantly kept a perimeter, and where those who came were recorded—was allegedly able to put this package into his car without anyone seeing. Would the police allow someone to approach the chairman’s vehicle and put a package in it? There are absurd claims. We will file a criminal complaint, and we will resort to legal means against these slanders.”
“THEY ARE WRAPPING THE NULLITY IN COTTON WOOL”
When asked about the removal of content belonging to Özgür Özel’s period in the CHP from the party archive, Emre said, “On the day the nullity ruling came, according to the research we received that day, our vote was 35 percent. Now, if you pay attention, the vote there comes out at 1-1.5 percent, or at most 2 percent. They continue to make every move to protect their seats. They had applied disciplinary proceedings; there had been moves trying to make the lawsuit regarding a possible judicial decision moot. Following these, they will continue to make moves accordingly. There is not a single day when we wake up to a new day without an unjust attack on our party’s growth; there is not a single day without a situation where we have to explain ourselves again and again against black propaganda. When you look at this whole picture, you see that the same mentality is almost wrapping the nullity in cotton wool.”
