President Erdoğan signaled new preparations regarding urban transformation efforts following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Istanbul. Erdoğan stated, "We are making comprehensive preparations for urban transformation, which is a matter of life and death for our country. We can no longer afford to waste time on anyone's whims in this matter. We are not in a position to deal with those whose ideological obsessions hinder the safety of our citizens and their property."
While Turkey continues to shake like a cradle after the earthquakes on February 6, the recent 6.2 magnitude tremor in Istanbul has raised concerns about how prepared we are for earthquakes.
"WE ARE IN COMPREHENSIVE PREPARATION FOR URBAN TRANSFORMATION"
President Erdoğan gave new signals regarding urban transformation efforts at the Turkish Red Crescent General Assembly. Erdoğan stated, "We are quickly healing the wounds caused by the February 6 earthquakes. We have delivered the keys to 201,000 homes to their rightful owners. We will increase this number to 453,000. We will revive and rebuild our cities until they are more modern and stronger than before. We are in comprehensive preparation for urban transformation, which is a matter of life and death for our country. We shared the current figures of the 'Half is Ours' campaign. We can no longer waste time on anyone's whims.
"THESE PEOPLE CANNOT EVEN UNITE WITH THE NATION IN SORROW AND JOY"
We cannot deal with those who prioritize their ideological thoughts. There is a small but loud group in our country. These people cannot even unite with the nation in sorrow and joy. They cause great harm to our country by exploiting every issue. They cannot accept that solidarity in disasters is a national matter. We all remember what happened on February 6. The group we call earthquake tourists immediately began to exploit the situation. They attacked our state with unfounded accusations. They targeted aid organizations.
"THOSE WHO SLANDER AID ORGANIZATIONS ARE NOT AROUND"
They left the citizens with broken hearts alone with their tragedies after their work was done, leaving without looking back. They took photos with the ruins and quietly disappeared. Those who caused a commotion and slandered aid organizations over the earthquake are nowhere to be found. Our municipalities, foundations, and volunteer organizations are still there. One of the institutions that cares about the people's troubles is the Red Crescent," he stated.
