The process of 'Turkey without Terror' is entering a new phase, starting with the words of MHP leader Bahçeli and continuing with the call of terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan to the terrorist organization to "lay down arms and dissolve the organization." It has been reported that after Öcalan's call on February 27, the organization has made the long-awaited decision to lay down arms and dissolve.
According to information obtained from senior executives of the AK Party and security sources, the PKK held its congress last week and decided to dissolve and lay down arms. It was decided that the announcement of the decision would be made public at the end of last week; however, it was stated that the announcement was postponed due to the death of Sırrı Süreyya Önder. According to security sources, the decisions made by the organization will be announced to the public within a day or two.
THE PROCESS IS READY AFTER THE STEPS TO BE TAKEN BY THE ORGANIZATION
According to a report in the Turkey newspaper, a draft program has been prepared by the AK Party and relevant state units regarding the steps to be taken in the upcoming process. Security units have also discussed these preparations with Öcalan. AK Party sources stated, "The critical threshold here was the laying down of arms and dissolution. After this stage is behind us, we will look ahead. We have been working on the steps to be taken in legal matters for some time. We have a ready draft, and we know what to do. After the announcement from the organization, we will discuss what steps we will take in response to this."
THERE WILL BE AN ASSISTANT OFFICIAL IN IMRALI
AK Party officials, who stated that there are no titles regarding Öcalan's removal from Imralı, said, "However, some administrative steps will be taken. There will be an official to assist him in Imralı. Prison conditions will be relaxed. He will be allowed to meet with the people he wants to see. There will be more frequent meetings with the DEM and family. The state has already stated that Öcalan himself said he 'does not want to leave Imralı' during his meetings. He knows he will face a security problem when he comes out. After all, we are talking about a man who has worked with many intelligence agencies. They won't let him breathe outside," they evaluated.
AK PARTY HAS GONE ON RED ALERT
Meanwhile, the AK Party has gone into a sort of red alert regarding statements that may be misunderstood by the public in the upcoming period. During a meeting of the delegation assigned to manage the process with President Erdoğan, it was emphasized that great care should be taken regarding statements about 'Turkey without Terror.'
AK Party officials stated, "These issues were discussed with the President. Any statement from deputies, organizations, or party management could lead to another debate. There are friends assigned in this regard. The process will be carried out within the framework of the statements of our President, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Deputy Chairman Efkan Âlâ, and Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik. Because this process is very sensitive. The DEM Party side will also show the same sensitivity."
HOW THE PROCESS STARTED
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli stated at his party's group meeting on October 22, "If the terrorist leader's isolation is lifted, let him come and speak at the TBMM DEM Party group meeting. Let him proclaim that terrorism has completely ended and the organization has been dissolved."
After Bahçeli's statement, the DEM Party delegation applied to the Ministry of Justice to meet with terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı on November 26, 2024. On December 9, 2024, Bahçeli applauded the speech of DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan, who called for a new beginning during the budget discussions in the Parliament.
In his speech, Bakırhan stated, "In 2025, in the 103rd year of the Republic, we can make a new beginning. This Parliament has the chance to undertake the founding of a Democratic Republic. Let the honor of creating a country that 85 million people will feel they belong to belong to this Parliament."
On December 27, 2024, Justice Minister Tunç responded positively to the DEM Party's request. The first meeting of the DEM Party with PKK leader Öcalan took place on Saturday, December 28, and the second meeting was held on Wednesday, January 22.
Subsequently, the DEM Party delegation visited their parties. On Sunday, February 16, the delegation met with Neçirvan Barzani, President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, and Mesut Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Iraq, in Erbil.
On Monday, February 17, they met with Bafil Talabani and Kubat Talabani in Sulaymaniyah.
After another meeting with Öcalan, the DEM Party delegation made a statement following the meeting on Imralı Island, reading Öcalan's message.
In his message, Öcalan stated, "I am calling for the laying down of arms and I take historical responsibility for this call." Before the announcement, Öcalan's last photo taken on Imralı Island was also shared.
