Most of the islets formed by the Kralkızı Dam Lake in Diyarbakır's Ergani district, known as Turkey's Maldives, are now underwater. The dry appearance of last year has been left behind with this year's rainfall. The turquoise-colored water was captured from the air.
The drought-stricken view of the islets in Kralkızı Dam Lake, located in the rural Yoncalı Neighborhood of Diyarbakır's Ergani district, was left behind with this year's rainfall.
LAST YEAR IT WAS LIKE A DESERT, THIS YEAR IT TURNED TURQUOISE
The turquoise-colored water was captured from the air. Hakan Kaçar, a resident of the neighborhood, said that last year the area was like a desert and the water level was very low.
“IT IS REFERRED TO AS TURKEY'S MALDIVES”
Stating that it has filled up with this year's rainfall, Kaçar said, "Even the road was closed. We are coming from the new road being built now. If it continues like this, it will reach its highest level. This place is referred to as Turkey's Maldives. With the rise in water level, it looks even more beautiful. There used to be a road here; people would come, fish across there, and have picnics with their families. Because the water has risen, the lower road is closed, and they cannot come. The places that were previously visible outside have all become islets."
