LABOR AND HARVEST ARE DIFFICULT
Producers, who say that cultivation areas must be prepared accordingly for the spread of alternative agricultural products in the city, prioritize high-income products. Ahmet Yiğenoğlu, who planted okra on 2 decares of land in Konakkuran Neighborhood in Kozan district, stated that he limited the production area to 2 decares due to the difficulty of labor and harvest.
ALTERNATIVE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS SHOULD ALSO BECOME WIDESPREAD
Stating that the harvest begins with the first light of morning, Yiğenoğlu said, "We harvest approximately 10 kilograms of okra daily from the 2-decare area. Our harvest will continue until the autumn months. This year, the field price per kilogram is 150 TL. While small okra is more preferred in our region, there is greater demand for large okra in Mersin and its surroundings because it is believed to be good for joint and rheumatism ailments. The labor is quite difficult. We start harvesting before sunrise. Not only citrus but also alternative agricultural products need to be widespread in Çukurova."
