The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced that a case of avian influenza has been identified at an egg production facility in the Meram district of Konya, and that the eggs obtained from the infected animals have been immediately destroyed.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced that a case of avian influenza was identified at an egg production facility in the Meram district of Konya, and that the eggs obtained from infected animals were immediately destroyed, stating, "There is no situation that can be classified as an outbreak in our country."

In a statement made on the ministry's social media account, it was reported that there were 158 cases of avian influenza last year and 74 cases this year in various countries. The statement noted that Turkey is located on three main bird migration routes and temporarily hosts wild birds for varying periods during migration, which poses a risk of transferring cases that have emerged in Europe to the country.

PROTECTION AND MONITORING AREA DETERMINED

Following the information received about the deaths of egg-laying poultry in the Meram district of Konya on October 31, it was reported that veterinarians from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture immediately arrived at the facility and quarantined the area. The statement recorded the following: "Samples taken from the facility were analyzed by our expert teams at the Konya Veterinary Control Institute, and tests confirmed the presence of Avian Influenza H5N1 (Bird Flu). In accordance with the principles of the World Organisation for Animal Health, a protection and monitoring area with a radius of 10 kilometers was established, centered on the egg production facility where the disease occurred, and necessary biosecurity measures were taken at the facilities located in this area. Since the first death case, the exit of live animals, eggs, trays (egg containers), and any materials and items that pose a contamination risk from the region has been halted, and the destruction of identified or potentially contaminated animals, eggs, and feed has begun.

"EGGS HAVE BEEN IMMEDIATELY DESTROYED"

All necessary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the disease. The disease identified in Konya is an isolated case, and there is no situation that can be classified as an outbreak in our country. The eggs obtained from infected animals have been immediately destroyed without being offered for consumption. We assure that there is no situation that threatens human health in poultry products that have been offered for consumption, and we respectfully present to the public that they can be safely consumed by our citizens.
