In Antalya, A.R., the mother who registered her newborn baby under another man’s name due to financial difficulties, along with S.M., who took the child, and Z.E.K., the intermediary, received a 10-month prison sentence for the crime of "changing the child's lineage"; it was learned that the baby is still with S.M.
In Antalya, A.R. (32), a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, registered her newborn baby girl under S.M. (48), who has no children, due to financial difficulties. However, when A.R. later wanted to see her child and did not receive a positive response, she filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office. In the case that was opened, A.R., S.M., who received the child, and Z.E.K. (46), who mediated the incident, were sentenced to 10 months in prison for the crime of 'changing the child's lineage.'
According to the allegation, A.R., who came to Turkey some time ago and has three children, was abandoned by her husband while she was pregnant with her fourth child. A.R., who moved into a shelter with her three children, sought help from Z.E.K., whom she met through an intermediary, thinking that she would not be able to take care of her newborn baby. A.R. told Z.E.K., who works as a caregiver in a hospital in the city, that she wanted to give her baby up for adoption. Upon A.R.'s request, Z.E.K. found a man named S.M., who had no children, and brought the parties together. A.R. and S.M. met and agreed on adoption with the request to see the child after birth. After the birth that took place in a private hospital in September 2022, A.R., S.M., and Z.E.K. went to the Kepez Population Directorate and registered the baby girl as if she were S.M.'s child.
THE BABY WAS NAMED AFTER THE INTERMEDIARY
The baby named E.M., who was named after the intermediary Z.E.K., was taken to Salihli district of Manisa, where S.M. lives. The incident came to light when mother A.R. went to the police station in 2024 and filed a complaint. In her first statement, A.R. claimed that Z.E.K. threatened her by saying, "You have no visa, you will be deported, give the child to them," and that she was forced to register the baby under S.M.'s name. However, in a new statement taken last year, A.R. retracted her complaint, stating, "I was not in a position to take care of the child, I gave her willingly."
DEFENSE OF "IT WAS DONE WITH THE MOTHER'S CONSENT"
The other defendants also claimed in their defense in court that the procedures were carried out with the mother's consent and that they had no intention of committing a crime.
10 MONTHS IN PRISON
In the verdict hearing of the case held last week at the Antalya 29th Criminal Court of First Instance, the judge concluded that the defendants committed the crime together in light of the collected evidence. The court panel sentenced the defendants A.R., S.M., and Z.E.K. to 10 months in prison for the crime of 'changing the child's lineage.' It was learned that the baby is currently registered under S.M.'s name. The fate of the baby is still unknown.
