AK Party Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek filed a criminal complaint against Mayor Mansur Yavaş and the Head of the Cemetery Department Köksal Bozan, alleging corruption in the purchase of cardboard cups and garbage bags by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB).
6 SEPARATE ALLEGATIONS
In the petition submitted to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, allegations of 'establishing an organization to commit a crime', 'manipulating a tender', 'interfering with the performance of a contract', 'bribery', 'abuse of office', and 'failure to report a crime' were included.
"IF THEY DISTRIBUTED TO THE NEIGHBORHOODS, THERE MUST BE FOOTAGE"
After the criminal complaint, Gökçek held a press conference in front of the courthouse, stating, "As you know, in previous processes, especially the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality purchased an additional 5 million cups for condolences, 10 million cups for soup distribution, and 12 million cups for offices, in addition to these 140 million cups. Now I am listening to their statements, they say, 'we distributed these to the neighborhoods.' If they distributed to the neighborhoods, there must be footage of the warehouses where these 140 million cups, 600 tons of garbage bags, and 2,500 daksils were delivered," he said.
"I WILL PROVE HOW IT CANNOT FIT"
Expressing that the vehicle license plates should be on the delivery notes, Gökçek stated, "These amount to more than 100 trucks, as we said. The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality claimed that there are 5 trucks. Starting tomorrow, I will personally go to the warehouses, and by filming in front of the trucks at the cup production sites, I will prove how these cannot fit into 5 trucks," he said.
WHAT HAPPENED?
AK Party Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek claimed that the Cemetery Department of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality held a tender for the purchase of 45 million cups worth 159 million lira. Gökçek stated, "Let's assume that three out of five thousand citizens drink tea. Enough cups have been purchased to serve funerals in Ankara for 41 years," he said. The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which denied Gökçek's claims, referred the matter to the prosecutor's office.
